  2. I dont know much about their motors, but i didnt like the actual store. I went there once for a part and wont go back. but that's just me. It might be safer to check around and compare.

Man I hate that store. You wait in line, someone comes in makes another line and gets served first. Happens EVERY time I go in there.
    Bad customer service there.
Since their engines prolly have a warranty. Their as good as anyones (Pep Boys etc).....JMHO

  4. There should be some engine shops in town you can buy refab motors from. Or ask around enough and you'll be sure to find someone who builds quality motors for a good price. I know a couple guys, if you're around the Rockford,Illinois area.

they have a 1 year warranty unlimted milage. most engine rebuilder around hear i wouldn't trust to build a motor i'm going to roll alot miles up on.

i have used auto zone's in the past with no problem had over 200,000 on a rebuilt 302 ford and was still runnning when i sold it.

    thanks kb

Do those require a core? If not, the prices aren't too bad, depending on what's "new" and what's "remanufactured" of the internal components. Do they provide any info about sonic checking or mag'ing the block & heads? Wat's new and what's "freshened up" on the init YOU are getting?

For the ******, if you still have to provide a core (or pay the fee), that's a bit high, IMO, but then I don't hold automatics in high value.

I've heard more bad than good about the parts store engines, so I'd say proceed with caution.

As for O'Reilly's specifically, I've had beter luck with their parts lasting better than AutoZone... and O'Reilly is the only parts house in town I'll even go to. But it's an older store, and the guys that work there are mostly car guys, and they seem to try a little harder to find what I need without trying to sell me a die-cast car or camo knit cap.

Bought a O'Reilly p***enger side dipstick 350 4 bolt main long block a while back for my Pop's '84 Crew Cab 3/4 ton Chevy truck. The thing runs great and he uses that truck like a truck! Hauling s****, hay, cars...***.
Great oil pressure and good power. I would have built a 355 for him but back then I had more money than time (it's the other way around now:eek:).

It's the first and last "new" motor I will ever buy.
Not that it isn't any good (cause it is) it just cost me a **** load of green and I probably could have built two 355's for the price of the O'reilly 350.
But time was an issue then.

    I guess it all depends....
was it built on Monday morning or Friday afternoon.;)

One thing i would try to do is pick one with a .020 or.030 bore and.010/.010crank so maybe you could look at a future rebuild later on.

You can buy a NEW GM 350 crate motor less intake and exhaust for about $1400, including shipping. Not Reman, New. All you need is an intake and exhaust manifolds and you're ready to go. No core. Pace Pontiac is one place I have bought them.

I've had too many problems with reman engines.

I used to work for those leprechaun ****ers for about five years and I must say that there is not much bad to say about their engines. I sold about 20 of them during that time and only had one come back. At the time they were rebuilt by Recon and I think they still are. Another plus is that they are not ****ing Nazis about returns (warranty) and they will take care of you w/o a bunch of red tape. I have worked in the parts bidness for some time now and can honestly tell you that a warranty deal is truly about your approach. Don't be a **** until you have to be and you will surely get your way. Oh, and the one comeback that I did have was from a guy that had this motor in something that it was not allowed to be in (by warranty rules) and the warranty had expired by a few months. Three days later, new engine for the fella.

if it is recon then auto zone and advance auto are also recon so it wont matter where you go you will be getting the same motor
