Surfing the net can sometimes pay off. The story started when a young Pennsylvania Hot Rodder's interests evolve into stock car racing in the late 1950's, and leaving his old '34 5W Ford coupe in his family barn, unloved for the next 48 years!

This poor thing came to my attention only 3 weeks ago, and I sprang into action to bring it back into the sun light (well, grey clouds) of Michigan. Where once lived a hot Mercury flathead (they buried it behind the barn) now is only space, but it can live again. The march of time, and barn mice, reduced the blue finish to dust and the upholstery to shreads. The tires aged too, but still want to hold air. The faded 1956 state inspection sticker still holds to the windshield, and the matching 1956 license registration appeared from under the seat cushion.

The brother of the now deceased Hot Rodder-turned-Racer told me how they gave it a 2-tone blue paint job in about '56 using hand pump sprayers, tossing the fenders in the process. Post war hydraulics and steelies provided further updates.

Now, this baby needs someone to breath life back into it. It's going up for sale (adoption) to whom ever can give it what it needs. I have another project holding my attention, but I would have loved to tackle this one. She's really straight and solid.

So, keep pulling back those barn doors.

    Steve

    Wow. That is beautiful.

Did they really bury the flatty behind the barn??

Woweeeeeeeee! That's neater than cat**** and twice as nasty! Love to see stuff like this. Ok! I'll bite. How much? This one's actually from a barn and not just a saying. I dig it.

They told me that when a stock car (or what ever) out lived it usefullness, they just cut them up and buried 'em! You can walk around the place and see axle shafts, crank shafts, and other bits sticking up all over. That flatty got tossed into some hole long ago.

Sometimes I wonder... If it was a '32, then there would be no way I would let it go, but the family wants the '35 convertible sedan finished instead. Maybe I should ignore them and go with the little voice inside me that says HOT ROD!

A story like this only happens ONCE in a man's lifetime. I understand your wanting to finish a current project but I'll put down a hundred right now it won't be a year and you'll be saying you wish you'd kept it and brought it back to life. 5w's seem to be so rare today and I can't fdigure out why. There had to be more 5w's than 3w's but it seems the 3w's outnumber the 5's today. This one is going to make a super car being perserved all of these years out of the weather. Only time money and space holding me back from being serious about it.

If I had that car and that story I could die a broke man but I would have a smile on my face and a 34 Ford. It could not be bought.:)

DANG! You've got yourself quite a find there.....

Everytime I read about a 34 in a barn, I just know that someone is going to dig up grandpa's old car that sitting in a bar.......that barn even looks like the barn his old car is sitting in.

Ironically, he and I were just talking about ways to try and get it. I want it sooooo badly.......

Man, what a find and that's a pretty good deal waiting for someone. Thanks for sharing it here, first. I only wish I had hit the powerball last night

ZACH, I'll be that's killing you!!! There's nothing worse than someone taking something out of your back yard......"This is MY territory!!" hahaha

...damn, when I see stories like these, it makes me glad I was born and lived in the time we're in now. Future rodders will have VERY slim pickin's. That is sooo cool...thanks for sharin'.

awesome find there man. I agree that you should put your other project on hold ot at least hold on to this one with out saling it. Just think in 30 years or so the next garage or barn yard find will be camaro's and mustangs, so hold on to it.

It was in a small burg not too far north of Harrisburg. A 10 hour drive (each way) for me and my old pick up, but a fun adventure for sure!

I'm trying to get a location on another '34 coupe right around here, a '60's creation that's been laid up after a carb fire in the early '70's. Maybe later this spring...

Alright, now you've got my attention. I'm just east of H-Burg. What little Burg, if you don't mind telling? BTW, I think you should keep it too. That coupe held up pretty good for the weather we have, maybe the openings in the side of the barn left it dry out quickly. Sure am sorry I missed out on that one.
