I'm not sure what you saw, but there were no tubes to take the smoke to the front of the car.

  3. In 2000 when we were building the Avenger FC that you drove, I asked Al about this photo and that's what he told me. He said it was a later addition to the car. The magazine I'm thinking about with the cutaway drawing may still be in KC.

I've posted this shot before, but that's Rich (aafa729) on the right.

Before this I remember John Smyser had an A/FD called 'Mr. Machine'. Same color combo. Neat car.

Skeans and Pickering A/MR, out of Vancouver,Wa. They won the Nationals in '60 or '61, and held the record for a time. This shot is their Gas Dragster from around '66, a RCS chassis I believe. Skeans dragster.jpg

I saw a show car a while back with the engine painted a lite tan pearl and the blower was painted too, with the ribs and end plates polished

It had a real clean look to it and you could not have made it look any nicer

Really!! I thought that the second one in the back was just a spare. :) The point was that the front end geometry was beyond scary and the rear may have not been much better as it used the same package. The Terrifying Toronado did at least use a live axle rear but it was just as bad in the handling department as seen by its over the guard rail effort.
Ivo's four wheel drive car ran relatively straight as it had rigid live axles at both ends so there was no "monkey motion" in the suspension as seen here.

The photo of the A/MR would have been from the'61 (or later) Nats as the '60 event was in Detroit and this is Indy. (Which incidentally is literally in my back yard as I own 2.6 acres that abuts the property on the north side).

After that car Smyser also had the Rader Wheels top fuel car that Nando Hasse drove to the win at the Hot Rod magazine event at Riverside in 1965 before risking life and limb in the Toronado.

Kind of funny seeing the old Nascar Sanctioned sign at the scales.
Those day's are long gone at least for now.
