Got this from a friend. It has the added piece in front of the original collector. Front 2 ports are blocked before the carb. Going on a '53 Chevy truck. Just never saw one split this way before. I have seen a couple of those, though never mounted. As long as you can get the exhaust routed without hitting any steering, side motor mounts or alternator/generator it should sound and work like a manifold split at the rear. I'm not too familiar with the trucks but that wouldnt clear on my car
As 54fierro stated, most splits were made to the rear for clearance to the steering and generator. Until you mount it on the truck, you really won't know. The sound would be the same whether it's forward or to the rear.
The earlier the car, the more often they were seen. In your case, I'd trim the dual side pipe & weld on a flange at the same level so as to match the stocker.
