One more before I go...I'm sure this has been on here before but well worth a second (or third) look. 57_E_Gas.jpg

I still have the tunnel ram that would look great on your wall. ;) Good to see the Corvette getting worked on.

My computer has been giving me fits lately. Had to change the way I upload pics so hopefully it is working.

This is my latest project. A 58 that needs a bit of love. Going to be a budget build and use as much stuff as I have around the shop and fabricate as much as possible. Hopefully have it done for summer 2017. Shooting for a 1965ish C/S with a 283/270hp. I think I may need some couch time as I am already enjoying myself.

I agree, I thought that the minute I saw the Pic, it was before my time there though.

Now that is a labor of love. I'll look and see what I have laying around for 58 parts. Looks like your going to need plenty. And I agree, you do need some couch time...(as most of us do in this hobby).

Thanks Baron. I got one door with the car when I bought it and it had a trunk lid and a convertible top lid that do not belong to the car. I since picked up another door. I have already fabricated a new floor and footwell area and new rockers and also fabricated the missing piece on the left side lower 1/4 (behind the wheelwell). There was no front clip so I ordered a handlaid front clip that is still sitting in a big box waiting for a bunch of other preliminary work to get done. The frame was badly rusted out in the kickups on both sides and the front crossmember was toast (and the rear was not much better) but I have that finished so it is slowly coming together. I used some of my leftovers and have some extra parts on shelves but know I need more stuff. Appreciate the offer though for sure. Would never consider taking it back to stock with as incomplete as it is but as a drag car it will be a lot easier for sure. Thanks.

    BOSS!

all this thing needs is a wheel change and some paint. Man, I wish I could find a C-2 project car for a halfway reasonable price. I have wanted a modified '65/'66 all my life.
I can see this with the grill cavity moved up a bit, a floating tube grill, late sixties square cibie headlights, wide and wider Ansen sprints with those "knock-off" center caps, pearl orange paint with cob-webbed gold panels and a duck-tail on the back...Oh yea, and 377 with Pro-filer 220's side-draft webers on a moon intake, a rank roller, an M-22 and 4.56s.

Look forward to watching the new project come together and keeping an eye open for myself for another project to start on.

Hi Jim D, That looks like a real project! Good luck with it. What about the 61 chopped gasser??

That is one I would really like to see come back to life. Jim

Jim I agree and I wish I could clone myself to get more work done. I recently sat in the chopped top car and when you see there is so little visibility with the scoop and lower windshield that it will probably end up as a static piece. It only has rear brakes (and a parachute) so it will not meet tech unless I update it. If I put a cage in it then it is no longer representative of the era-so kind of a dilemma in a sense. It is a tube chassis car and is probably not the safest car but I guess my plan all along with this car is to show people the way they were. I am not one of those guys that like to sit around shows so that may have influenced my decision to drag up the 58 nightmare, that I can drive more. All that being said I really like the chopped top car and as I near retirement, it will end up being a retirement project.

As to the 58, my fondest memories of Corvettes without question revolves around my buddies 61 with a 283/270. When I hooked up with the two brothers on the next street at age 16 they had two Vettes, the 57 they ran in B/G and the 61 stocker. The gasser was really cool and ran pretty good but the 61 was super competitive. It was a street strip car and Tim mostly ran it with a 5:13 gear and when the engine let go another was plugged in. The car always brought a smile to my face and so I have always had a 283/270 acquisition in the back of my mind. This pile of parts came up on Craigslist a couple of years ago for $2250 and I got him down to $2000 and then had him throw in some other parts (whole other front suspension) and I knew then it was going to be my 283/270 car. I don't know about you but every time I get in either my avatar car or my black 62 they put a smile on my face. I can have a terrible day with work and take them for a ride and get in a better mood. The 58 already brings a smile but I plan on running a 4:11 (with my M22 wide so it should do alright). Time will tell.

Hope all is going well and that you are having fun. You have to be close to retirement yourself I imagine.

This '57 belonged to my friend Lou. He lost his battle to cancer a few years ago. I recall Lou telling me, he bought this in 1961 while working at a Chevrolet Dealership in Flint, Michigan. The Vette was a saleman's car that was traded in while Lou worked there. He bought it for around $2,000.00 but it had 100,000 miles on it. Soon after buying it, Chevrolet came out with the 327, Lou ordered a brand new 327 and it became a lifetime love affair for him and the vette. When he passed away the car was giving to his nephew that has it to this day. Lou & I had many rides but it wasn't a expressway car. I recall one of our trips, it had 4:56 gears, backed by a 4 speed and dual quads. It was quick and fun! I miss Lou not for his car, but friends like him make a lifetime of memories. RIP Lou Swartz!

Jim D, All is well, but not much fun this year, working 12/13 hours 7 days a week since June so I can do the retirement you referred to for next year. That will be 51 years in the same job and company. No pension, self employed. So I am Finishing up my long term retirement plans so I can get back into driving/racing my vettes. I only had the black car out 3 times this year. But driving it brings me back to 1966. Great memories. I have had to postpone the 61 436 vette build until Spring. Jim

Thank You Jackal396 & Rat Sass. There was so much I left out. The biggest thing was Lou was part of the street racing on Woodward Avenue back in the day!
