    Hello Everyone,
    Wanted to say Hello.
I am new to this Forum.
    I just bought a 1936 Ford Pickup Truck from a Retired neighbor/friend.
Unfortunately, the truck has been sitting for too many years.
The truck had 4 coats of paint on it.
The first coat was Orange ( like Cal Trans ) or Orange ( like the Burlington Northern Trains )
    Then Blue Paint.
Then the last two coats being Red Paint. No idea the years when it was painted.
It has rust all the way around the cab on the bottom: 6-8 inches worth.
So the first thing I did was strip the paint off the cab so I can actually see how much rust damage and for what Patch Panels I will need.
** Well, the other day, another (retiree) neighbor stopped by and commented on the reason for so much rust is because, "Red Paint eats away at the metal".
I had never heard that before.
Would that be because of the possibility of Lead in the Paint ?
    Other Chemicals ?
Anyone ever heard of that Old Time Myth before ?

I told the neighbor that I think the Rust is because the truck sat for so long AND no one ever cleaned out between the fenders, running boards & truck bed where they connect to the Body, plus the Truck is 80 years old.

The Truck had all of the original driveline removed and was given a Ford 289 & C4 Trans. & 9" Rear End back in 1969 in the South San Francisco Area.
Then 10 years ago, the truck was moved to Northern Nevada.

    I'll keep you posted.

I've heard that Black cars will rust slower than say White cars because the Black absorbs more heat and dries out hidden areas where moisture could accumulate, but like chopped51 says, I go with the myth thing.

Not true at all. Now people think reds don't last a long time. They last just as long as any other but so many people over the years have bought economy reds and cheap reds use cheap pigment. Like red enamels you find at hardware stores.

Hi. Only thing wrong with red paint is that gives wild & crazy drivers (usually big trucks or Taxi Cabs) a better target to aim at. Black, grey or green blends into the background scenery better & the crazies don't see them as well. LOL
