On my 37 chevy sedan I am leaving the stock front axle in place but want to convert to disc brakes. Some kits can be run with the original spindles, others require 49-54 spindles. Is there a benefit to the newer spindles?
49-54 spindles were commonly used on tube axles, the kingpin diameter and inclination are different than the stock spindles. You won't have any trouble with the stock spindles, have 3 cars here converted on the stock spindles.
Not a store bought conversion. 70 Impala rotors are 2 piece, knock the studs out, hub and rotor come apart. Put the rotor on the back of a 54 Chevy hub which fits by changing the inner back race (yes, still ball bearings). On beam axle cars I made brackets that the Impala caliper brackets bolted to. Last one was done in 86 when these parts were a lot more common.
