hey guys, looking at the options for opening doors after shaving the door handles other then leaving a window open, i was thinking some remote job with a mechanical pull under the hood in case the battery dies or something similar. but i was wondering whos had good luck with what, i dont want to do this more then once so might as well do it right the first time. a quick glance at speedway shows a 150+ dollar option and like a 30 dollar option giving me the impression that theres quite a range of quality there. whats the way to go? i live in -27 deg nebraska its an early 50s ford and itd be a daily driver. figured itd be a good step in keeping ppl from messing with it while its parked along with the standard kill type switches. but at the same time i need something that will open the door when its slightly glazed with ice and i normaly would have to give it a tug. dont know if thats super clear, gues im just looking for a good popper wana point me in a good direction? tim
You can buy a kit or you can go to autozone or wherever and buy a starter solenoid for a sbc put an eye hook on the end of it and there you go door popper. If you want an emergency backup get a brake cable from a bike or a hood pop cable route it through the door in the fenderwell and there you go
Oh and as for the part that actually pushes the door open if you have room you can cut down a valve spring and put it where the hinge is or just buy the spring popper theyre cheap.
When I do shave customer's handles I ALWAYS use SPAL door solenoid kits. They come with everything but the pusher to do the job. Remote brain box, two remotes, two solenoids, hardware, instructions, etc. I have never had a problem with these kits, and they are the most fairly priced. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPAL...ewItemQQcategoryZ33642QQitemZ8038543074QQrdZ1 Heres a link to the pushers http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/50LB...ewItemQQcategoryZ33721QQitemZ8039174360QQrdZ1 You can go with other name brands, but they all work the same. They are rated by pulling force in pounds. Supposedly, the more poundage the better. I had problems with my first autloc 50 lb kit so i tried this 40 lb spal kit, and I have installed atleast 20 of these kits now and never a failure!
thanx guys, but just out of curiosity what are the chances of walking over to my car in a big show with thousands of cars and hitting my remote to pop the door open and having a few other car doors pop open? just a thought tim
SLIM to NONE. My personal remotes ( I have 5 from old systems ) have never opened a customers door. And I test them all, because I, like you, dont want some other knob shines door popper openin MY door
Also, check out electric-life.com They have two unique style of door poppers (jammers and thrusters) and solenoid kits.
