Exactly my thought. What the heck is the Kid doing in there. Maybe it's disinformation. Making it look like the kid was there.
Is that Joe Pisano in front of the Bones, Dubagh, Pisano g***er with his back to the camera? That 56 Chevy push truck has black CA license plates.
WOW! Memories. Went in 62, 64 and 66. It was a great time. Married in 67 and everything came to a screeching halt. Warreen
That was my second year, went with my dad, saved extra from a summer job so I could get a pit p***. Great memories.
I was there in '66 went in my 1965 Chevelle SS with a friend and his girl friend. Great time! Great racing. These photos bring back great memories. My, my, has the track changed! The hill is gone behind the bleachers and the place doesn't even look the same. You know you are there though when you cross the railroad tracks driving in..... that is still the same. My friend pestered "Grumpy" Bill Jenkins for an answer to a car question and Grumpy (true to his name) refused to answer until my friend crawled under Grumpy's car with him and held out a ten dollar bill. Grumpy took his stooge out of his jaw looked him square in the eye and ****** the ten spot and gave him a one word answer "No". My friend thought he died and went to heaven and talked about that until the day he died. You would have thought God had spoke to him. Every year as Labor Day approaches I think of going to Indy for the Nat's one more time. Age & time is catching up to me .....but I think I'll make it again one more time maybe next year..
Sorry about that Kid image getting in there... Obviously from the 70s! I've replaced it with a bonus image from the correct NHRA event.
Great Post Jive-Bomber.... I was there in 1966 too, along with everyone else that chimed in. IN THE FAR LANE!
69 was my first year and the Pony cars and funny cars were storming the tracks with the old g***ers. Great show to attend
These photos were all shot by the late Pete LaBarbera, a Maryland hot rodder who traveled from coast to coast many a time doing exactly what he loved—building hot rods and raising hell. He wore many hats throughout his 71-year lifetime, including speed shop counterman, upholsterer, car club founder, family man and above-average amateur photographer. Ralph Bull, one of Pete's longtime friends, took on the task of sorting and scanning Pete's extensive photo collection to share with the m***es, some of which are seen in the featured post. We have the whole story (in two parts) and plenty more images in TRJ #64 and #65.
