I'm redoing the interior of my 29 coupe...I'm not gonna stay with the stock seat set up as I'm too tall...I've removed the the perch and package tray, and was wondering what you guys have as suggestions for a decent replacement seat.I'm not gonna chop the top either cause it has a 50 year old lacquer paint job... so anyway, just wanted to get some pics and ideas of what kind of set ups u guys are using in your coupes...thanks Heres a pic of the coupe..nothin fancy..pretty bare bones hotrod
Wow that thing is cherry! You thinking of a traditional seat or more modern and comfy with some safety in mind? There was an awesome thread on newer seat fitment for our traditional rides but it was deleted a few days ago due to not being traditional, total shame IMO as it had a ton of great info.
Traditional but safe and comfy...gonna do the whole thing..door panels headliner etc..probably something that fits a 50's-60's look,,,
Haha dunno if those go hand in hand. Get something modern and reupholster it to look cl***ic would be my vote for sure! You gonna stick with a bench seat or buckets? I love the look of the original low rise bucket for my Econoline but after getting whiplash in a car accident back in 2001 there is no way I would use a seat without a headrest. I am trying to figure out a 3 point seatbelt set up in mine currently.
I'll be using a bench seat most likely..I think they look good in an A...I've heard that a middle seat in a dodge caravan works well
MarkJ can you not modify the lower bench or make a molded foam replacement in a new profile to suit your height? These days they can make all kinds of shapes and the selections of grades of foam near or eliminate the need for springs. I guess what I'm saying is a trusted car upholsterer should have some solutions. The old bench seats just have the look.. You also can modify the track/riser and it sounds as if you are moving it back as well. All these things may change the dynamics for the better. The seat in the my 29 was modified height wise by 1" to 2" by just removing just material. Its still not low enough (my car is chopped) so I may have to do what I am advising you to do as well.
Yes..its an option to modify the stock seat..but I thought if I could find a seat that was one piece in the frame, or at least attached back to bottom, i could move it anywhere and not worry about trying to support the upper park of the seat...I know there are alot of alternatives..so I started this thread to get alot of different ideas
3 rd row seat from a Caravan... width is perfect, modern spring set-up , and you can adjust the height....... my 2 cents........
I used the MIDDLE seat from early Dodge Caravan and it went in perfect. UPullet, $25 and you don't even need tools to remove it.
I suspect that thread might now get pulled. The one I mentioned above that referenced modern bucket seats with belts for our traditional rides (active from 2008) was deleted yesterday due to it not being traditional I wish I had noted all the info and seat choices in it before it was nuked.
MarkJ Thread to check out http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/traditional-model-a-seat.575230/#post-6387115 The seat below was custom made by Doug (Marshall Metal Shaping). His post is in the thread above. There is some pics of the inner workings of this seat. His car is channeled so the height should be workable for you.
I went with the middle seat from a Dodge Caravan..fits like a glove!!..was only 40.00 at the local boneyard, and was in excellent condition to boot!!..I'll post a pic soon...thanks for everybody's help and suggestions
heres the seat. it will be done in Burgundy and cream tuck n roll along with the rest of the interior
Model A's-Roadster, coupe , sedan- all middle seat, Dodge Caravan- cheap, easy to get out, and they look Pisser! Good choice ( if I do say so myself!)
I also used the caravan seat. Cruze Craigslist ,I got mine free. In a 29A had to narrow it but was easy as the cover and foam came off in one piece.
wow!..those all lok great now that they have more old skool upholstery on them!!...cant wait to get my A's interior started!!
my seat fit right into my 29..there are a couple different widths depending on the year of the Caravan.Mines the smaller of the two, about 43" in the widest spot, there is a 46" in the newer vans but its just a bit too big.Could be you got the larger of the two. So if your hunting in a bone yard for one, make sure to take your measuring tape along!!
I got a mini van seat complete with fold up arm rests (both ends) in my 34 pick up. Fits nice and looks like it belongs.
