I have a grill bar with teeth and was wondering what the best way to polish it is. It has small marks in the chrome or stainless not sure which.I thought about selling it and would like to clean it up first or maybe I should not and sell it as is.Its not a show piece with some pitting that will never come out but its definitely worth something any help would be appreciated. I thought about taking off the teeth and trying a buffing wheel with polishing compound but not sure if it would be the best bet.
Bak in the early 60s I had a 53 Ford into which I put a 54 DeSoto grille... I recently picked up a 55 DeSoto... parted it out but saved the grille (never know when I will need it for a 50 Merc or 53 Ford.....) and also saved the hemi... Although I think the 54 grille is a bit nicer than the 55..... Anyway, if you are gonna sell it I wouldn't waste time polishing it, it wilbring good money as is.....
It amazes me the cars people will look at and only see a parts car... a 2-door hardtop? That good? In the northeast?? Come on. I mean I picked up and sold one of those grilles, too, but it was sawzalled out of a rotty 4-door sedan who's next stop was the crusher - Anyways, you can try masking the stainless while you polish the chromed parts, and vice versa, if you don't want to take it apart. A lot of times those old potmetal pieces you can strip threads if you're not careful trying to take the nuts off the studs that usually hold them on - they'll tend to unscrew the stud out of the piece before the nut turns off it.
I have seen more for sale in the last 3 years than I have seen in the last 20 years. Prices ranged between 350 to 1200. I had always wanted one and now I have one. I have also seen a few spare pieces in the last few years also. A few, I have bought and others I should have. Some people collect 32 Ford grille shells, I collect custom grille shells. Are the little teeth different in the 54 and 55 Desoto`s, I have two different kinds. The 54`s(?) didn`t come with the main grille bar.
