The rain gutter stuff you made at the class is really neat and clean. I'm thinking that the window line needs to mirror the top and door/gutter line. I don't know how that would work or how big the window would get.

Birds? Indians in northern California made capes from wood pecker scalps, about one square inch per scalp. It took hundreds. Maybe you could upholster your car with bird scalps and get more time by having your wife shop for birds while you build. Probably not cost or emotionally effective.

  2. Some times I'd like to scalp him for sure....

Ok so the door and door frame are about 80% done. Now the plan is to do the other door. I discovered the drivers door is significantly different. Like 3/4 of an inch so I have to go back and make it match the passenger side better then the door top and gutter. Then get the roof back together.

Today was a good day. Answered a craigslist add for a rotisserie. $100 California dollars was pretty good but I'll need to beef it up a bit. While I was there I scored some rims for tool stands and some plants and a birdbath for the wife. All included in my $100 so that was cool. This was in El Cajon... An old machinist who's house was coming down around him. The family was trying to sell a 24 model t that was 45 % restored, all the fab work looked good, two small block engines that looked pretty good as well. Never thought to ask the prices on those.....

  4. That picture is all wrong. The door needs to be 5 inches longer. The rear fenders need to be lengthened 7 inches and the decklid needs lo look like a 40.

  10. Tooling up a bit more. Picked up a upholster's sewing machine for $50 seems to run like a champ, and 2 old button presses for another $30. Now I just got to figure out to use it all! Maybe I'll ask the man.... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1433639327.492337.jpg

This was a coupe converted to a roadster

  14. Figured after Winfield ... you were knee deep into some yoga and breathing techniques ... one with the metal and all. How'd that carry over yet ? Get the sunroof installed ? :):)

  15. Hi Kid... I'm trying to keep moving forward. Trying to make drivers door match passenger. Not really picture worthy. Summer vacation with the kids means water parks and camping trips so the car has been sitting and waiting patiently. Been lurking on metal meet.com a bunch and trying to learn stuff there. Thanks for those silver tongued words of encouragement.... Your one of a kind.

It looks almost finished to me. A little paint will cover that, just not black it shows everything.

  18. If you bought something finished you wouldn't have gained all the knowledge that this project has forced you to acquire. Or the satisfaction that you will have when you finish.

  20. Well, I went to a local Metal Meet and learned a bunch. I picked up this contraption, put it on wheels, and almost have it up and running. I got books and videos on how to use it.....soo I'm hoping to have some progress to report in the near future..... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1444332448.731777.jpg

  21. I might be just a tad jealous

  22. There it is. !!!
Man That's got to be a bear to push around. Mine is on a big ass stand with the tooling at 48" off the ground. It feels too low there. What books did you get? What about the motor, what did you wind up doing?

  23. Since you asked..... I haven't come up with a manual yet other than the 14 page one written in German, which actually is pretty helpful if you stare at it long enough. I got the Fay Butler book which is good and then the videos from shapingdie.com which I found very enlightening.... I wanted it much higher so I'm working on jacking it up another 10 inches to about 50 inches... The motor was rewound for 220 both speeds work. I went cheap on the VFD but I think it's gonna work out after some research on the practical machinist page... It's apart now because I'm trying to get the tool holders converted to hold 3/4 square stock... Wish I had/knew someone who has a mill... ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1444451675.329917.jpg

It actually rolls pretty well in the shop, it is very heavy and the tandem wheels had one set of rubbers that disintegrated ... No luck sourcing replacements. Rolling it around the house to the shop was a 2 man job, shoulda been 4 men really.. Vertical lifting, like over the 4 inch threshold or adding the riser is something I always do when the wife and kids aren't around to tell me it can't be done.... Here's the altitude adjustment completed.

Holy hell...I have a 36 fordor that I was thinking of doing this to...but man have you had a ton of work! Good job and keep it up. That machine should help you out a bit.

  27. I've found every way to procrastinate on this project . I'm punching the garage door in to make moving cars easier. I'm thinking about ditching the belt line for a more custom look...... Wow, I couldn't get a motorcycle through there!
I say keep the belt line. I'm afraid that without some original, sorta', body details it might look like a low buck fiberglass repo. The top, skirt, rear fender, belt line and the deck lid lead the eye to the rear where they come together and take you gently off the back. Then the eye goes back to the front and does it again. Kind of like a kid on a slide. Any way I think the belt line is important.

  29. Thanks 6 ball. I need all the help I can get!
