Technical 1946-48 Fords: How did you lower yours?

I'd like to see pics of people's cars and hear how they lowered theirs. I've looked at a lot of pictures and have seen some nice stances. Does me no good without knowing how it was done.

Anyone used the Posies In-Da-Dirt kit?

 

Stock suspension= Shackles. Not stock= blocks and cut coils.

 

I've got the rear of mine figured out, I have Chassis Engineering parallel leafs to install and will use blocks to get the stance I want. For the front, I am going to use the stock Ford undropped axle, if I can, and maybe the 3 inch dropped Speedway front crossmember. If that doesn't pan out, I will probably go to a 3 inch dropped axle. In either case, I will probably use a Posies reversed eye spring up front for an inch more.

When I built my coupe back in the 70s, I used a 70 Mustang rear and leaf springs, I notched the frame so the front spring eyes mounted up inside it, used the Mustang shackles and bushings in the rear.
I modified the front crossmember to raise the stock spring and axle up into it. I just flattened it out some, it has a lot of drop in the stock form. I built a 4 bar setup to use in place of the stock wish bone
I used a Vega steering box mounted in the stock location and stock 46 drag links and tie rods, had to reverse the taper in the Vega pitman arm for the drag link

 

Used a stock axle, Posies low spring and a dropped crossmember from 40 Fort in the front; had to C notch the frame for axle and spring clearance and modify the wishbones. Still have to find out how this front will work; maybe need a higher arch spring. Rear is a CE parallel leaf set-up with lowering blocks.

 

I used Chassis Engineering front and rear on my 47. Their Pinto front, and parallel rear leaf. Ride great, and sits nice

Hmmmm! no coils to cut on a 46-48 ford.

 

I dont have picyures but I used a chassis engineering rear leaf with blocks and up front I used a dropped crossmember and old 2"dropped axle.

 

You are not going to like the way it sits with a stock front axle and just the dropped crossmember. Way to high for my liking on my old coupe.

 

Well I'm running a Nova sub in front with CE low ride rear springs plus lowering blocks

 

no pics, again - had a '47 coupe with front reversed eye, de-arched with two leafs removed from stack - used Tokico (really good shocks) shocks designed for use on early 60's Corvette rearend - used panhard bar and disc brake conversion. remember, unless running narrowed frontend, how low you go depends on having clearance for full turning of tires. out back switched to Chassis Engineering 2" lowered leaf springs with 8" Ford.

 

My ,41 c-Dan has 4 inch drop beam a d 2 inch drop spring from posie for the front . Rear is leaf springs with 3 inch blocks.

 

Stock front spring with every other leaf removed and '40 main with reversed eyes, otherwise front is stock. C.I. rear springs with middle leaf removed

 

I've wondered about that, but I figured either a 3 inch dropped crossmember or a 3 inch dropped axle were still the same drop. How was it different ?

To me 3 inches just isnt enough. But then again I like all my stuff to low.

 

Turn the ft tire all the way to lock, take pix of the axle/leaf.

Rear is Posies parallel leafs-no blocks
frt tire is 25.5 inches tall-rears are 29 inches tall

My buddy's '48 sticking it's nose out of my shop. It was dropped the old fashioned way. Drop axle and Posies springs.
