I remember seeing EJ run his Chevy bike at the early Smoker's meets, and just like in the pic sometimes in a drift with that rear tire just blazing, what a showman he was

Had the pleasure of meeting him a few years back at lunch one day, as he was out here buying a few parts for his V 12 Allinson's

From George Klass: Jack Ewell's "Chubasco," Fuller car that was both black (originally) then this bronze color. The interesting thing about the car is that the body was done by classic customizer Jimmy Summers, better known for fadeaway fenders, etc. Story we heard was that this was Jimmy's first and last dragster body. Jack worked the counter at Mickey Thompsons, and drag raced since the first days, when he ran a radically chopped "A" sedan. This car has been perfectly restored back to its original black color...those of us who remember these original cars can be very thankful to the craftsmen who either restore or recreate them! (like Rooman, on this site, for example. I don't know if he did this car, but his work is amazing)

Crosley, Williams, and Swan...several shoes, including Rick Stewart, drove this car..always a contender...finally broke in half at Bakersfield

No ID on this fueler at Fontana...could be Bob Brisette or Paul Sutherland in the Charger?

The Tasca Ford name goes way back...these guys towed out from RI to Irwindale...

Orange County Metal Processing at Lions...Norm Weekley was one of the drivers that drove this car...interesting front wing angle.

Yes, another picture of Willie, with the short-lived Scott injector, at OCIR.

No ID, probably east coast...John "Mudd" Sharrigan ran a chopped sedan like this one. not sure if it is him, maybe with the Nomads Car Club? East Coast guys??

The late Don Tuttle, Chatsworth, CA. Don built this car himself, Algon injectors were mine, Don drove out to Blair's and bought them....Don later started California Chassis Engineering...has since passed away, real good guy, down to earth, kept calling his car "a turkey" but it ran very well on big loads of nitro.

Plain Busted was Andy's car and I think he became a police offer.
    Looks like Dover Drag Strip.

I think Dino knows more about Andy.

Boy this photo says it all about 60's grass roots drag racing.
We need more towbar shots though.
    Really enjoy your contributions.

    Keep em coming.
I still would like to find some towbar shots going down the road.
Thanks you guys, this thread should be given gold star status.
Maybe we could talk Ryan into adding that to deserving featured threads.
Who has some pull with the boss?

    Hi Denny

In those days we just did not have camera's like today, I really regret not getting a pic of my 37' hooked up to my 56' Chrysler hardtop tow car

Being the same Met blue color & lt blue they made a neat looking package going down the road

Wished I had the 56' back as it was a great car, but needed a truck for the biz and had to sell it in 69'

Like Don, we painted dragster and tow car the same color...my '55 Chevy, Earl Scheib yellow, took the dragster body panels and they painted them yellow for an extra $5 bucks....so I'm betting that Don's car and push car looked a lot better than mine did!

We painted the 37' in my buddy's garage and my other friend did the spraying of the good old time lacquer in 63'

He layed her on so smooth no color sanding needed, just some elbow grease and the DuPont red hand compound and in about 2 weeks it was all rubbed & waxed and standing tall

I was one proud puppy the way it looked when pulling into the pits on race day's, since my Aunts 56' Chrysler was a real cream puff too

    Thanks.
That Coke stand shot really is a neat photo, not sure where, but I think I've seen it before.
Never get's old though. IIRC, I've only seen 1 or 2 "going down the road" with towbars photos throughout this whole thread, I have asked before, must not be many around.

Denny the only guys taking pic's were the strip photog's and they were always action shots, and I did not have a camera and was too busy keeping the gasser running to worry about pics

Kind of kicking myself for not getting more shots, like they say ' Hindsight is 20 - 20 '

Nearly 30 years ago while prowling second hand stores in "Old Town Pomona" ( pre e bay when everything became priceless), I found a three foot long polished aluminum
"model" of this car. don't know who made it, but I suspect Jocko did!
    Didn't buy it.[IMG]
