    Hi,

Is there any options out there for LED replacement headlights for 6 volt cars?

I am working on a 1949 Packard and there are halogen replacement headlight available however since the wiring circuit goes into the cab and through the headlight switch I am worried about heating up the 66 year old wiring so perhaps LEDs would be the ticket for safe and brighter lights.

The Packard take a H6006 bulb and it is positive ground.

    THANKS!!!

instead of LEds use a relay to the light from the battery , this way the switch will not see the high current /amp load and the lights will be brighter

Does old wire itself become resistive or, just the connections themselves? I don't know the answer to that, but while headlight relays are a good plan I'd still want to minimize any inherent voltage drops because there aren't any relays made for ignition or accessories. See where I'm goin' with that?

If you can get 12 volt LED headlights that can be opened up, you might be able to change (or add) a current limiting resistor that will allow 6 volts to drive the LED headlight close to the brightness of 12 volt input. I would look at the current limiting resistor and then just piggyback the same value resistor on top of it. This will halve the resistance and keep the current the same as when it was a 12 volt item.

Why not just replace the wiring?
