or make your own, this is a V8 one,, will need modifying for a 6. http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff267/new_falcon_owner/Falcon%20V8%20crossmember/
it keeps the lower towers/frame from flexing, just like the top bar does on top.. stiffens up the front subframe.
Take our advice and install one of those bars it will be worth it. The front in these falcons is too flexible without it and surely will help make it a little safer if things go wrong.
sounds good ill look into it. So does anyone have any idea what size Ubolts the 61 has? I want to make sure I get the right parts. Thanks
i cant remember what they are, my ubolts are long gone. take a 7/16th open end wrench and stick it aorund the ubolt, if it fits good then its 7/16, or try 3/8 or whatever. then measure from the top of the axle down the the end, theres the length, then add 2in. Just make sure theres at least a full nut on the ubolt, extra is better and you can trim excess. what master cylinder do you have too?? since your going thru all that, change to a 67 mustang dual bowl master cylinder and make some new lines. theres lots of help online to swap a dual bowl master in falcons. iif you blow a line, you will have NO brakes with a single bowl (fruit jar master), with a dual bowl, least you will have some braking because its all split up front and back. The single bowl feeds all brakes.
lowering the upper arms wont drop it what you want, lower the arms and cut 1-1/2 coils out. as for alot of work for not much change, that is wrong. It will correct your steering and handling alot.. but the choice is yours.. cutting the coils only is ok too.
The lower tie bar you're talking about, do they not come with one? I was just looking at my '61 and there is a bar that's bolted between the lower control arm under the oil pan.
the bar were talking about bolts to the lower part of the shock towers where the motor mounts bolts too.
I'm just reading this thread for the first time and I have to say that both of my '62's have the tube tie bar on them. Both are six powered as well. I do Know that the Falcon went through several ch***is changes during the first part of 1962, so maybe this was one of them. Could be a 1960 only thing as well, ( no bar ).
My '60 has the bar. It left the San Jose/Milpitas plant with it. My buddy Mark's dad worked the line there, and likely built my car. He says they ALL got them.
HELL NO! The purpose of this mod is NOT to lower the car. It is to create a negative camber curve on hard cornering, which was a design defect. My '60 has alarming adhesion in corners. Yours can too, if you can manage to drill 4 holes.
Where did you guys find the lowering block and u bolts at for a 61 falcon ? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
