I have a T5 out of an 87 Camaro v8 that's going in my 40. I've got the thing apart and had the kids clean it up. Here's my question. The counter shaft rear bearing that is pressed into the back of the case,is there a spacer/washer between the bearing and the counter shaft? This is not the thrust bearing in the front of the counter shaft. It looks to me that the shaft gear will ride on the bearing housing. The rest of the tranny if pretty simple, but the kid that cleaned it doesn't remember if it had anything on the shaft. Thanks for your help. Mick
There is a spacer on the NWC tranny, but not on the WC tranny - your '87 should be NWC if original. I'm fairly confident WC didn't arrive for the F-body until '88. Check out this thread - I posted links to a rebuild manual & a rebuild guide: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89495
Thanks guys, it's at work but I think it is a NWC so I'll check the parts cleaner tub and see if I can find it. I'll keep you posted. Mick
