Presently I've got the 2 barrel intake setup on my 364. I'm thinking on rebuilding it but I'm not sure if I should just try and find a 4 barrel carb somewhere. I've got a good, clean 4 barrel intake already so that part's took care of. Any suggestions ? I have limited funds to work with so I guess that will probably play into it :)

It must be a small base on an older intake I would ***ume. A Rochester 4GC is small base, came on many GM cars and trucks 50s and into mid 60s on some.

but there is two types of linkage hook ups. On most of them, the linkage pulls back, but Olds pushes forward, so keep that in mind so you don't have to start changing linkage

Look for a Carter 2507 4bbl carb. That was found on the 364 Roadmaster, Super or Century lines as well as the 4 - series Rochesters. If you do everything will fit fine including linkages and starter relay switch mounted on the p***enger side of carbs. The model numbers on both the Carter or Rochester carb lines meant they were meant to fit a particular model line or cross over of model lines ie. GM or Chrysler etc.

If that doesn't pan out an adaptor(available from Speedway) and a 600 Edelbrock will work fine.

  7. My '58 364 had a Rochester 4 jet on it. Even after the cam change (with a little jetwork) it worked fine the entire time I owned the old Buick and after that the entire engine setup worked fine in a '34 Coupe for a very long time. If your funds are limited I think I know where there is a Rochester 4 jet that could be had pretty cheap and I am sure we could find the parts to go through it.

Are you still using the throttle start set up ? If so you will have to change over your wiring to a new switch or use a ****on . On my wife's I took out the lighter and put a ****on in its place . Light her up .

It's still got the original setup. You think changing it over is the best option or leaving it as is ? I kind of like the idea of a new switch

The switch is on the carb on rear side of carb on p***. side . When you push the pedal down it energizes the starter . When the engine starts the vacuum makes the switch fall out and will not close the switch till vacuum is gone , that is why you can put it on the floor and go . You can keep that system if you can locate a 4 barrel carb with the switch . I think only Buicks had that but not sure . Good luck , and if you need anything pm me . Blue

I've got an old 4 barrel carb that came with the extra manifold.... It's pretty bad shape tho with rusted and seized parts. I know a pretty good carb guy, I wonder if he could resurect it ? It sure would solve a lot of problems :)

That would work if you have the right carb . If you ever plan on going over to bigger brakes drill out the va***e port and enlarge it in the manifold . I did this on mine when I went to disk , made a big difference . Blue

I can't remember now why I did it, but I ran a Rochester Quadrajet on an adapter on a '64 401, and there was a big improvement in drivability over the previous AFB. (Jimmy Vaughn's chopped Rivvy did the same, BTW.)
