Anyone know if '39 Chevy 1/2 ton running boards will fit a '46? Some repop sites list these as '39-'46 and some list them as '41-'46. I know the rear fenders are different, but I'm running a flatbed anyway so that doesn't matter. Just wondering if the front is the same. Jim Carter's sells '41-'46 repro boards that say they'll fit '39-'40 with "slight modifications" but they don't give any specifics. Trying not to run any 'gl*** on this truck, found a real clean set of '39 boards and wondering if I can use them.
If I am not mistaken the 39 fenders are slightly wider then the 46's. Wouldn't that mean the rear portion of the 39 boards would be slightly wider to match up with it's intended Fenders. Perhaps it would work if you don't mind the boards sticking out beyond the fenders a little bit. Maybe "slight modification" means slicing a 1/2'" out of the boards and sewing them back together. Please keep us posted as I am also working on a 46.
the front shape of the running board is different, but i think the fenders will bolt on by drilling new holes. it has been a while since i swopped parts so i am not sure,
So the running boards were a good deal and I went ahead and bought them anyway. I can't comment on the rear fitment since I don't have rear fenders, but up front they are a bit different. They match up to ~60% of the '46 front fenders starting at the cab, but towards the wheel opening the early running boards are longer. They do look like they'll work with some t*******. Can't tell yet if I'm going to have to shift them forward or back any to meet the fenders properly, but it doesn't matter because the mounts need replaced anyway.
