God Speed George....He thought so much of Uncle Ray's Roadster. Went way out of his way to make the car known in his own way, responsible for some amazing photographs and even included it in his show circuit. Thanks George.... George Barris Photo, Modesto California, 1959
George: what you have done with your creations, will last in everyone's memories forever. Thank You for all you've done and inspired in others!! RIP
As much as people put him down for being a copycat,he was by far the king of originals and did that for 70 years.RIP Mr. Barris, you will be missed.
An artist and possibly the biggest influence on custom cars ever. He will be missed by millions. Profile in this months Hemmings Classic Car magazine http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/2015/12/01/hmn_feature5.html
Actually a couple weeks from turning 90. We should all be that lucky. He did what he loved for nearly a Century, went to shows and events all over the world til damn near the last minute......not a bad life
Amen, to all have posted here already. It's been hard on me, personally, the last couple of days. As a kid, George Barris was one of my Heroes; as an adult, he became one of my friends. Thank you, Mr. Barris...you truly were "The King Of The Kustomizers". JK www.legends.thewwbc.net
Condolences to the family. I was caught up in his sphere of influence starting with the Munsters in '64 . To my 7 yr. old mind, "the coach" was amazing. Little did I know at the time that that was just the tip of the iceberg.
Watching HOT ROD Herman as a tribute to him. Two of my favorite cars he ever built. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Oh man it is sad to see him go. He is truly a legend. I am honored that he picked my Kustom for his award at the Salina leadsled show.He gave me a huge tin stamped Barris crest plaque that I display with pride. Rest in peace George.
Legendary. One of those guys I wish I would have shook his hand & said "hi" when I had the opportunity... but I always feel like NOT annoying celebrities. Legendary work & seems to have made a great living doin what he loves & helping keep our hobby out there in mainstream interest. Is there an official "Hot Rodder Hall of Fame"?
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/06/b...latest&contentPlacement=3&pgtype=sectionfront I don't know if this has been posted on this thread (several for Barris), from the New York Times, good story overall but got a couple of things wrong -- Art and Lloyd Chrisman created the coupe in the picture (and later rescued it), and the James Dean Merc was not chopped...but at least George made the New York Times
There has been a lot of great builders emerge over the years, but only one King. Rest In Peace Mr George Barris, your a true legend of the car world, world wide.
