Hello thank you for the acceptance I have this 1941 Chevy truck I'm putting together for my uncle and everything he thought he was getting is not what he paid for. First off it is not Posi Traction, finding a S-10 Posi G80 rear end is impossible. The previous owner installed the bed slammed near the cab,why ? because he was hiding the fact the axle wasn't centered and the tire was touching the rear fenders. I'm in the process of makeing some room in the cab for a bigger guy, so I need some suggestions. I have thought of pedal rearranging and OEM seat rearranging, but he wants power seats with a low back. I need suggestions anyone out their with a truck like this let me know how to make some "Leg Room" for a bigger 5'9'' 260 lbs man.
I've got my seat as far back as it will go, and the seat back is about 4inches thick. I'm 5' 10" tall and it is still tight. I can stand about 1 hour before I need to stretch.
not a lot of room in those cabs. seating looks fine. it already has a tilt wheel. forget about power seats. maybe cut a "C" out of the dash where the column bolts under it, & push the steering column up & in. Probably have to change where it comes through the floor & the linkage, but that's usually not too bad, unless exhaust, etc., is in the way. trade that steering wheel for one with no dish. that alone will gain you 3".
I'm a big guy myself and pre-war vehicles are tight at best. Can't see why he wants a power seat if it's going to be pushed back all the time anyway. Your best bet is to push the column up and forward and a flat dished wheel as stated be others. Perhaps finding a shallower seat back will pick up a couple inches. Every little bit helps. Barring that, it's time to find a sedan. Leg and belly room heaven.
Yea ,thats the point were im at.... i never thought about cutting the dash...i know the seat is a good part of it ,and the steering wheel and column never dawned on me . But all these ideas are great...thanks guys....Katuna your from Clovis Im from Kerman.....lol
Get rid of the gas tank and seat riser. I'm 5'11"@228 and don't think it's that bad. I have my seat height so I look out the middle of the 4 inch chopped windshield and still have 4 inches head clearence.
Thats what im saying ,but he wants the OEM gas tank area for storage. Gas tank is in the back now. The seat are needs to go,it needs to be flat is what i said.
You need your **** lower than your knees a flat seat is no good. Sure seems like he wants a lot out of a small space.
Oh yea , i thought about making it flat and getting mustang seats and playing with Height, or something. ....i dont think he understood the involvment, but he had truck lile this before he shipped off to Nam so i could see wanting another one.....i want my 76 C10 back ,but dosnt look like that will happy anytime soon.
You should make a deal if you give him 3 extra inches in the cab he has to loose the same off the belly.
I'll bet he fit in it better back before he went to 'Nam. It's hard to relive your youth, if your 40 years older & 40 lbs larger.
To start go to the U pull it and get the posi out of a trans Am, same guts in the rear and easy to find. if you are lengthening the cab you will need to either shorten the bed or lengthen the frame. if you lengthen the frame then that will be a good time to deal with the centering of the rear wheels, or if you shorten the bed you have two options, either move the fenders or scoot the rear to the proper location. you may have to do both if you don't stretch the frame to accommodate the longer cab. Hope that helps a little bit. Wait a minute he is 5'9 and has no leg room? This is a s**** right? I am between 5'10 and 6' and when I had my '41 I had no problem with leg room? What's his inseam for cry sake?
Ain't that the truth, I'm 70 lbs heavier then my enlistment weight. Here's a photo I got off Craigslist of one with buckets.
LOl I guess my time in The Nam was different then most. I weighed 140 when I enlisted and weighed 130-135 when I came home, it took me decades to get my weight back. I am up to 170 now though so I guess I am quite a bit heavier then when I mustered out. Mrs ****** says I'm fat. LOL
