Hi guys, I picked up a Clifford header for the 223 6cyl that is in my '58 ford ranch wagon. The fitment is off, front collector rest up against engine not allowing flange to rest against the head. Rear header collector hits the z bar for clutch linkage, causing the flange to be away 3 inches. If clutch is fully pressed to the floor, the rear header will fit perfectly. Have any of you guys have run into this problem, and what did you do to solve the issue? Thanks, Dave
I bought a Clifford header new for a 6 cylinder OHC 69 Firebird. Fit was about like yours. Bought the intake at the same time. No chance it would clear the headers, although it may have worked with the stock exhaust. Port spacing was off. I would never buy from Clifford after that.
I may be wrong, normally am, but I thought Clifford was only selling the truck headers these days. At least that's all I saw the last time I looked at their web site. -Dave
As town sedan mentioned, they only make truck headers and even those call for 'adjustments' ask me how I know. Cut and fit time.
Hi. My avatar shows my 235 Chevy car engine in my 46 Chevy Coupe with the Clifford dual 2 barrel carb set up. Cannot tell from that photo but behind the intake manifold is the set of Clifford shorty tube headers that have a great fit to my CAR engine. The only modification I had to make was because the flanges on the intake manifold are somewhat thicker than the flanges on the tube headers & we had to slightly grind down one side of the bolt spacers that hold the 2 manifolds for an even fit to both manifolds where the spacers would not be in a ****ed position. Had to take down one side of those spacer washers about 1/8". I spent a bunch of cash with Clifford on setting up this engine with their intake with carbs & exhaust & cam & ***orted hardware during the process of making up my mind on what version to purchase and a couple of calls later just asking for advice I found Larry to be very helpful. Not sure why you are having problems because I have had nothing but a good experience there. Jimmie
When you bought them did they (Clifford) say they would work on your wagon (car ch***is)? They use to offer both car and truck headers for the 223, but in recent years I've only seen them offering the truck version. Call them, will they take them back? -Dave
Hi. I ordered these in either very late 2013 or early 2014 & they were avalible for both car or truck bodies at that time. Also mine is Chevy and not the Ford or other brands. At that time they were beginning to go heavy into Ford & Mopar 6 cyl stuff. Not too long ago I visited their website & about everything has changed. Jimmie
Looks to me like you need to relocate the or replace the generator with an alternator. Doing that would allow the headers to move forward and away from the clutch Z-bar. Just a thought. .................................. Jack
Hi again. Had some time to mess around so I logged onto the Clifford site and on page 3 of the Store items is a 223 CAR manifold. Not sure if this is the same as what you got but at least you can look & see. http://www.shop.cliffordperformance.net/Ford-223-Car-Headers-53-0030.htm Good luck & hope you can get this solved with Larry at Clifford. Jimmie
Last time I looked at their stuff was a few years ago, but I see now they are listing the car headers again. I wonder what the application really is. Since there is some differences between years. Also noted no foot notes, so that would suggest they should fit all. If you do need to mount an alternator and or modify the clutch linkage this information should be listed. Wish you luck with this and will be interested to hear what they have to say. -Dave
Hi guys, Before I had placed the order I had asked if the car headers would work on the wagon. He said they would fit perfect. Generator to alternator swap is a definite upgrade I'll be doing in the near future. Will post pics once I have them fitting properly. Dave
I got the headers to fit perfectly with a 1/2 inch gap between the collectors. Front header had 3/4 inch pie cut taken out of side of collector. Back header I took out 2 1/4 inch pie cut out of side of collector. Plus I had to dimple the 2 middle pipes to allow the stock intake manifold to clear it.
