The man has taste no doubt, but he also has restraint. He knows not to do too much with a custom, which is a rare trait in the custom scene.
"mild mid-50’s custom that would feel at home on a little page" You got that right! Clean styling and not overdone, you summed it up perfectly.
I have always loved that car, from the first time I saw it in the mid '80's at a kkoa event. everything on the car was "just right" to me while so many others have too much of one thing or another or completely missed the era with a few parts.... Lee Pratt was and is a genius
Perfect indeed. A great example of the type of customs that were built back in the early 50's for guys that didn't have a huge budget and weren't trying to out do every body else. Torchie
Not 'ahead of its time" but rather the continuation of a dim flame that Lee helped bring to brightness. Lee has many of his cars, what happened to this beauty?
Cool car. I like that he left the top alone. Did I miss what kind of tail-lights? are those 53ish Ford? Ryan, now you gotta do a feature on the 41 Buick, just to round out your collection.
That's right on. Not sure what exactly it is, but Lee certainly "shortened up" the look. Tudor sedans are difficult to make slippery...
I remember seeing it in Des Moines a few times as a kid and liked it back then. I can appreciate it even more now. Very clean looking car. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane. And yes, do a writeup of the Buick!
did that car end up in the Bay Area with the roof cut off? seems like I saw it a couple times driving around my shop, then I saw the roof laying over by the fence. then it disappeared.
if it wasn't that car it was it's twin. dark purply color, crazy tail lights, I don't remember the grille, but do remember the headlights. this could have been 20 years ago... more than 10 for sure.. I almost grabbed the roof but thought better of it since it would take up a bunch of space and I didn't really need it for anything.
I admire the attention to detail with a Lee Pratt Kustom. He makes it look so simple and we all know designing and building a kustom is far from simple. Thanks for posting the article.....
Thanks for the post, Ryan. After looking at these pictures it strengthens my feeling about Lee being a genius about what he builds. His cars are always spot on with great proportions, tasteful body mods and great use of color. He's the man..........E
very interesting blog... love the 40 and the Nomad and the Impala and the 52...and and... what talent!
