Went for a drive in my 47 Lincoln Thursday, met a truck which slung up something, a rock, piece of steel, I don't know. Do know it hit my perfect windsheild with the hardest lick I have ever had a gl*** hit, and put a golf ball sized place in it, even sent slivers of gl*** inside on the seat! Talked with the local gl*** company, they can cut me a new safety gl*** windsheild, but I'm on my own to find the gasket. Mine is about as soft as a rock and cracked anyway. I found a place online that supposedly has them, haven't contacted them yet, but the web price is close to $200! Tried Steel Rubber's website, they didn't list anything. Anybody else got a site I might try? Really don't want to spend $200 on a gasket, even if my insurance will probably reimburse me for it. Thanks in advance....

In those days, lots of Lincoln stuff was the same as Ford, dunno about this , though. Check with the specialty companies on that. Also, is there a site for old Lincolns online? Maybe check the Ford sites such as Ford Barn?
I know this isn't much if any help, but at least it gives you a bump back to the top.

Thanks Dave. It's for sure different from Ford as it's one piece flat gl*** with a stainless filler strip. The one that I did find was at a Lincoln specialty place called Boos-Herrel, it was $200. I'm hoping I can do a little better than that, but that may be my only route.

I got to imagine that $200 is the going rate. Honestly that doesn't sound too bad to me, but then I bought new windshield and rear quarter window gaskets for my '62 Merc Monterey Wagon last year and it was over $500 for all 3. Rare cars have expensive parts.

Yeah, I guess when you don't own a mainstream car, parts will be higher and harder to get. 40-48 Lincs are all supposed to be the same, but they didn't sell as many Lincs as they did Fords.

  7. A couple to try:
Vintage auto warehouse Frederick, MD (301) 874-5464. I bought a windshield gasket or weather strip for $198.00 in 2006 also a rear for $ 110.00.
Pat Walsh Restorations Wakefield, MA (781) 246-3266
I have dealt with both of these people and had very good service.

Have you tried Steel Rubber Products? I got one for my 46 years ago from Metro Molded products in Minn but they have since moved out of state.

You might try Lincoln Mercury Old Parts Store in Clearwater Florida, They had something that I couldn't find anywhere.

Steel rubber doesn't have anything listed on their website. I found another place that has them for $150, so I'll probably go with them. Probably be late this winter or early spring though, right now my money maker semi is in the shop, soon as I get it out I'm looking to trade it off. Hate to make payments again, but got to have something more dependable....
