Has anyone done this? My question is whether or not the trans will fit without modifying the transmission hump. It will need to have a hole for the shifter, but will the tunnel need to be changed?

I have one in my '54 wagon, the only real modification I had to do was on the frame,,I had to make a lower mount for the transmission.

And make a C notch for the K member,it's not in place when I took the photo but bolts in place under the transmission tail shaft. HRP

I was hoping for a "sure it fits fine with no mods" but also knew that that was probably a pipe dream.
One other question, though, does the shift lever as shown in the picture come through the floor in front of the bench seat?

The B&M proripper shifter can be mounted offset to move shifter forward. That combined with a Hurst bench seat shifter should get you in the clear on the seat. I was going to use the same setup in my 56 wagon but decided to try and find a T85 od.

    I've got a 302/5 speed (85 Mustang) in my 56. The only mod I made was a new trans support with a mount for a 60-64 Galaxy--DEA A2253.
I have bucket seats so the shifter location was not a problem.

Thanks. The plan is to take some measurements of the seat location on the frame, wait for the engine to arrive and set it in with the ****** attached and see what lines up and where. Forte's in MA should be able to help with the shifter kit should it be needed. The body is coming off as soon as the new floors are welded in place. There is so very much I need to learn to put this back together. This forum is an amazing source of the help I need. Thank you all again.

Hopefully these photo's will help. HRP

I unbolted the mustang shifter and adapted a old Hurst shifter to bolt in place,I wanted it to look more vintage but also clear the bench seat.

This photo shows the shifter in second gear and the seat adjusted as far forward as it will go for my wife to drive, there is no interference with the bench seat.

It is close and my pal Dave that did the upholstery said early on in the build if the shifter was too close he could notch the seat for clearance, fortunately we didn't have to do that. HRP

HRP, what position is the shifter in on the tremec? Right now, mine is all the way back and can be moved forward about 4" by turning it around. There is also a kit to move it forward to the next place, about 8" estimate.
Thanks for the help. I too have a wife with short legs compared to mine.

I have the earlier 5 speed ('84) so there is only one position. HRP

Danny your shifter location looks perfect. Do you remember which Hurst stick you used?

Did you have to weld the holes and drill new ones in the shifter? I had to do that on my off topic daily
    driver.

I had a old complete 4 speed shifter from my old 63 Falcon in the barn and just took it apart and and robber the stick, all I did was drill 2 holes and bolt it to the transmission, couldn't have been any simpler. HRP

I'm running a T5 behind my 302 and I didn't have to modify anything (other than cutting a hole in the floor). I'm using the stock crossmember in the stock location with a pair of universal Prothane mounts that I picked up from the local Baxters. I'm not sure what the exact part number was that I used... but it looks very similar to part 4-1604-BL.

There are also a pair of large washers top and bottom (you can see the top one in my photo below), I did have to trim the washer and bushing slightly on the bottom pieces to fit it inside the crossmember, but it worked great and have me a perfect amount of clearance top and bottom. And, it'd be easy to add some additional washers to adjust the clearance if you needed to.

PS... don't mind the whole I drilled in the ch***is brace in the last pic... I thought I was going to have to notch it to clear the trans... but then I found these Prothane mounts.
