I have this 55 that has the original and rebuilt power steering slave cylinder and contoller and was curious if anyone has simply hooked a later (1966 chevy) power steering pump up instead of the original pump/generator?

I think it's been done....and it make sense, they didn't redesign the rest of the power steering system when they changed to a "normal" belt driven pump in 1960.

I did that to my 57 years ago when I changed to an alternator, using a kit I got at that time from Classic Chevy Club, when it was a member oriented club and not a business. That said it used a bracket that was part of the left front engine mount that held the pump. It also needed an extra pulley on the crank to power the pump. Worked like a charm till I later changed to power box, eliminating all the under car hoses etc.

Í have done it too on my -57. I used saginav powersteering pump, similar which was used on most GM cars at least thru 80´s. Mine was from -69 Buick, if i remember correct. Works perfect.
