Have same fronts for my 39 Hudson build, bought them in August. I would like the mag look but not sure that black is it? Appears too dark? Am I completely wrong?

DirtyDave - here is a pic of the real mag that was striped with Eagle One Chrome wheel cleaner - it says "Not For Mag Wheels!!" :D Then 6 months of Georgia humidity and you get a dark look. If it ever stops raining in the Southeast, maybe I can get an outside shot

Will there be a Georgia vs California match race at some point?

  19. Oh ya, sooner or later the Child is gonna do that Dodge, Quick & Dirty. I think we are a good match up now, and we are 500 lbs. heavier. We also have a new maniacle mouse in the works to do battle with Dogs new Moby **** 467" engine. The Child is even working on a move to the Carolinas soon, where she can better stalk her prey. Just so you know, this is also a friendly deal with us. Tony is some of the best people the good Lord has set on this planet.

I've probably said this before - but building the cars, calling folks for advice, hanging out at the track and eating at really weird greasy s**** places in the backwaters of the South is 99% of this. The other 1% is finding out you really don't know what the hell your doing - or even better - wondering how these guys did this in the 60's without treated tracks and H-Beam rods. The people I have met doing this are the top of the heap - none better! Is it Saturday yet?!

  21. My brothers and I made the nearly 2000 mile trek to the Meltdowns in 2014. Everyone thought we were nuts for towing the '56 bare back on an open trailer. However, we were riding in a stocked kitchen, 36' motor home, with a good stereo and AC rolling, a ****per/shower, and two large beds for the each of us to crash on, after our driving shift. Tony and I were talking about, image some dudes in California during the 60's, flat towing their g***er to Indy, late August (Africa Hot!), for the nationals, behind a 265/3spd Nomad, with no A/C, and AM radio, full of tools, jack, slicks etc., a bag full of PB&J sandwiches, a single jar of death master cylinder, and brakes that weren't enough for the Nomad in the first place. Just ask Gene Cromer what it was like, this weekend. @ Greer.

  23. For the history buffs, Carrillo Rods has been in business since 1963. Fred Carrillo had a bad accident @ Bonneville in the early 60's that severely injured his leg, and finished his driving career. Fred wanted to stay in the hot rodding game, so he asked his car buddies what he ought to make to better their quest for speed. The most common request was, better forged rods. Fred had already been involved in some aerospace projects, and when he was talking to one of his aerospace contacts about his new rod business, the friend said, you should use 4340 Chromoly. It turned out at that time they were using this material in the building of DC-8 p***enger planes. When they cut the front window holes out, there was a big enough slab left over to build 8 rods out of. The rest is hot rodding history.

    The build
then the strip for the first runs
to the mods and support and guidance freely given
To the ups and downs and now the rebuild
From the start until now their has been a sense nostalgia and comradery . that's seeped though the pages lines and the words thats made this thread unique
Tony you have something more than a build thread here .
You have a lot of friends.

Very true Dave - wouldn't trade this adventure for anything ;)

So when did the 'motor home' come out? The tracks are full of them now but these old pics don't show any pulling race cars. Just curious.

  27. Late 60's, early 70's is my guess.

There was a great article earlier this year about Fred Carillo and his accomplishments and his company in Hot rod deluxe earlier this year. (Might have been Hot Rod. I can't be certain but) they now archive all the articles on their website. So you should be able to find it.
