I have several aluminum pieces on my cars and they all get some tarnish on them. The worst so far is an old yankee turn signal switch, Ive polished it to a mirror shine but in a years time its tarnished a ton(Im thinking its not aluminum) but a sealer should still work. Anybody have any thoughts they can share?
You might try this. A tad expensive but Eastwood is like Snap-On or better. http://www.eastwood.com/sharkhide-aluminum-protectant-quart.html?SRCCODE=MN130110 I'm sure someone here on the board has a cheaper fix.................we'll see.
Sharkhide is probably your best bet as it's easily touched up or replaced. But any polished aluminum won't stay polished, sooner or later it will need at least some buffing. Any coating you put on it will tend to dull the finish, and generally the longer the coating lasts the harder it will be to get off when it inevitably get a flaw and you get corrosion under it.
That's probably the most transparent and durable coating for aluminum; that's what the OEMs used for years. But it can be scratched, and it really can't be 'touched up' so if it gets damaged it's strip, repolish, and re-anodize....
sharkhide is the best around for polished aluminum. I have used it on all the polished aluminum and stainless trim inside and outside as well as the wheels on my OT Plymouth. Been on there for 4 years and still looks as good as the day I polished everything. Google Sharkhide, they have an informative web site.
