I have a 1934 Chevy Master. When I bought the car the previous owner told me that was the year model. I measured the hood and it is indeed the size used on the master. My issue is I am ordering a new one piece hood from Rootlieb and I noticed that the top front edge of the hood where it meets the top of the radiator shell is a straight cut. My radiator shell has a has a peak so now I am wondering if the previous owner put a different year model radiator shell on the car. I know I can cut the hood to match the peak but I am almost sure that the edge of the hood will have a folded lip and but cutting it will make it weak at that point. I am going to use hood braces because I am installing a side hinge on the hood. I really don't want to cut the hood so I need to know if anyone can identify my radiator shell and let me know if it is the one that was used on the master 5 window. Thanks for your help
If you don't mind me asking, what is a PITA about the 3 piece hood ? I have already ordered all my parts so I can't back out now. I saw a car like mine that had the setup I am going to use and it worked out pretty nice. I am installing braces and a nice hinge kit with a cable operated latch release. The hood braces really stiffened up the hood and made it feel very solid. What kind of problems do you have with yours ?
So back to my original question. Does anyone out there know if the radiator shell in the picture for a 34 chevy master ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Don't open your hood if there is any chance of a gust of wind,it will warp it out of shape if the wind blows it over, plus these kind of hoods will scratch your paint if your not careful. HRP
Thanks for the info. I am getting a sliding hood prop that locks into place to keep it from being blown over or falling. Thanks again !
You really need to add 1934 CHEVROLET to your title. I opened the thread thinking a Ford guy needed help. Bob
Grille shell is stock Chev. For a one piece hood you have to modify the shell to match the hood. Orig radiator cap hole has been removed and shell peaked.
Looks like a stock 34 hood and shell with the ornament base removed to me....here's a close up picture
I'm still trying to get my head around the differences between 34s and 35s Standards and Masters. Fords are so much easier, haha. Here's my 35 Standard, or Junior as they were called in the Southern part of this rock.
Now that is nice ! I want that grill. I have been looking for the emblem and bottom hole cover and cannot find them.
Ok. Finally got some info. The hood is made with enough extra material up front that I can cut it myself. I was worried that it might have a folded lip but it does not. I did not want to have an odd looking edge with 2 different thickness's next to each other. I appreciate all the feedback and advice. Thanks
