Hello, I've purchased a 1951 dodge meadowbrook. I've been trying to get the flathead 6 running for some time now, probably not this one. I have the opportunity to to pick up a 53 dodge coronet. The body and roof are fuct, allegedly the motor is good. I just want to turn this thing into a couple times a month to back and forth to work and bars driver. So I'm thinking instead of keeping the original engine, what would be some cars I could pull a motor, ******, and rear end from and just get this mother going?? Any suggestions??
What have you attempted to do to the original engine to get it running? Is it lockd up? If not does it have any compression? Is the ignition working? Do you have a functioning carb/fuel supply?Tell us about it.The 53 engine should go right in,but I would sure want to be sure the engine in it is bad first.
I could get it to pop, then nothing, burning through 6 volts trying. Started tearing it down and the valves are locked up. I've had it for too long and just want to drive it, so I want to go with modern internals.
360/727, offset engine to the right, Mopar 8 1/4 diff, or another 230 flattie, they are very robust little workhorses, that are super reliable and torquey, again swap in a more modern diff, with say 3.55 gears, and cruise down the freeway at 70 mph all day long, as long as the brakes are in good shape. The front suspension and steering are excellent, if in good mechanical condition, bolt on a disc brake conversion for added safety
