I am getting ready to mock up my body for my truck. When mounting the cab and box, is there a material that is used between the frame and box. I have looked at Robert motor parts, and they have what look like rubber pads that go between them. How thick are the pads, can I get something cheaper that works just as good? Is there a spot that sells large head bolts to mount the fenders to the box? I found them but at $5 a bolt that seems high.

You can get something like belting material and make your own mounting pads. As far as the bolts, Fastenal, Mcmaster-Carr, or maybe even an old fashion hardware store can get you a bolt like you need. If you want exactly factory style bolts, yes, they can be $5 a bolt.

Hi. On the bolts consider fusing regular bolts with fender washers. A fender washer is usually a 2" diameter washer that can be bought with various bolt holes in the center. Most hardware stores carry these around here. They are avaible in either plated or stainless. Jim

It don't look like it's as thick as a hockey puck. I would guess maybe a 1/4 thick, it's for a 1937 dodge truck. I will probably make my bolts thanks.

Does anyone put anything between the cab and frame or should I put it metal on metal?

You can get poly rollers at a boat trailer supply and easily cut them to any width on a band saw. Cost effective...works well. Usually have several durometers available.

McMaster-Carr has any style, width and thickness you can need. Also any durometer. Usually next day delivery. www.mcmastercarr.com. They also have any style bolt you need.

I always used hockey pucks from ****'s Discount Sporting Goods, along with stainless steel bolts, flat wahsers, with stainless steel lock nuts.

I found what I was looking for. There is a 1/4 inch piece of rubber between them. After looking around I finally thought of the material that exhaust hangers a reader from. While looking for them I came across a mud flap, works great and just what I wanted. Hope this helps someone else. What a pain to cut.

I had that thought, but I did not want the tire wire sticking out when I put my fingers up there for no reason.

I had a roofer friend give a end cut off from rolled rubber roof. It is sticky on one side when you peel off the plastic, it is easy to cut to any size and lasts for a long time.

Have you considered EPDM, the material they use on commercial "rubber" roofs? You could check commercial roof contractors and they would likely give you some cut off material. You could use regular auto adhesive to glue it in place. Life span on EPDM is something like 50 years. Just saying.
