My preferences is to mount a bench grinder on a stand so I can use it outdoors, or at least aim the sparks and debris etc outside. My home-made stand is similar to this, but without casters. http://www.homemetalshopclub.org/news/apr00/grinder.jpg I got a larger grinder at a yardsale, and have been trying to think of ways to mount them both on one stand. I'm tossing around ideas about how to keep the foot small, and easily pivot or flip the bench grinders to position one for use at a time. Something like this - http://lumberjocks.com/assets/pictures/projects/511742.jpg - Does anyone have a clever way they have accomplished this ?
Make it come apart at the top, put a smaller tube into the larger vertical tube, maybe use a hitch pin to lock it from turning. I need to do something like that too, I have a little room for grinding/welding type stuff, but way too much crap in it to be very useful. Having a few different grinder/polishers on a shelf and one stand to put them on would make life better. edit: thread lock and redirect to Garage Journal in 3....2...1...
Here is a dual grinder set up I put together about 20 years ago. The 20" truck rim provides quite a sturdy base but also allows ease of movement by simply tipping it onto the edge of the rim and rolling it where you need it.
================== So you can use a spindle on each grinder at the same time to create a belt grinder? hmmmm...... thanks all, Dan T
