Hi folks. I am pulling apart an old 33 Ford hot rod. The rear axle has these brakes and for the life of me I can't figure out what they are off of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. The backing plates are '39-'42 ('38 was mechanical) and the drums are '40-'42 (5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern). You can date the backing plates from the fact that they adjust in 4 places (the post war backing plates only adjusted in 2 places). The drums are not standard American Ford drums. I am not sure about the story on the drums but I remember reading one once (not sure if I believed it). They are either foreign or aftermarket I don't remember which.

Thank you Rick. Thank you Charlie. Charlie, the car is from Canada so perhaps they had the different drums up here? Thanks again for the great feedback. Keith
