You know what really gets me? Is all the time I spent putting together a site that eliminates these problems and people act like it doesn't exist. I know I'll probably be heckeled for this but while there's an off topic rant I should be able to go off topic and rant

I think that when a guy has a bunch of items to sell, at one time, they should go on the same cl***ified ad. Alot of people do this, but I have seen more lately, selling one thing, and then another at the same time, and list the seperately. Just a way of saving space, and keeping some of the other ads from getting burried fast.

Just my .02, I will go wash the sand out of my ****** now.:D

I love rashy - he should get a gold star for putting up with punks like us!

Prob is - one man's ***-pile is another man's treasure...and vice versa. The old car 'dance' has always been that way. It's a matter of perspective. you can get the longest damned discription in the world - and if the guy's half blind and mostly deaf (Don't laugh - he runs a car lot north of San Diego) the description ain't worth spit. Pix - when the site only allows 84kb jpegs, you're not gonna get enough detail to determine whether a chrome piece is a ten footer - or bottom structure for a b*** pond.

Communication is the key. The ad's just the starting point.

Take pictures, state your location, your asking price, and give a quan***ative description of the item's condition. You might call a dent "pretty bad" but I want to know how big, how deep, and if it crosses any body lines.

You think the HAMB is bad, go over to the ForwardLook site. I love those guys, but I'll be damned if anyone can figure out how to list a vehicle or parts. No wonder there aren't any '50s Mopars around anymore, the sellers couldn't get the ads straight before the cars rotted away. :D

  6. ok, now I have to step up and say this during my whining,we have a pretty damn decent bunch of people here and I have had tremedous luck ,yes, LUCK ,buying + selling ,Far Far better than say Egay w all the peckerwoods asking tons of questions, asking for pics, shipping quotes and getting not a bid , I rather sell here at a loss alot of the time rather than deal w egay's BS,Its my only *** kiss move of the week, so notch me down for it :D

    I agree almost 100%, except

not necessarily true- I've sold many items, high and low dollar online cause I am antisocial. Hell, that's why I'm on the net! I can't stand talking to potential buyers, calling sellers, etc. I don't even have a damn home phone :D I greatly prefer e-mail because I can gather my thoughts, make myself very clear, and have a paper trail to refer to. I hate taking calls (literally get aggravated if I hear a phone ring), I hate cleaning my house to have people over, and I SURE don't want a stranger seeing thousands of dollars worth of tools or projects when they come to look at an item for sale. To me, the net is the best thing that could have happened for me!

on the other hand, I follow this to a tee. I KNOW I have to take many detail shots, describe every problem in detail etc. if I have any hope of attracting a buyer. I lose potential sales, and am sitting on some cars now because I describe them exactly how they are- like PROJECTS or useable drivers with problems. Oh well, in the long run I feel better about the sales, and haven't had any complaints

what peeves me is when some broke pipe-dreamer posts:

"damn i wish that were closer"
"why are all the good cars on the east/west coast"
"geez i wish i could afford that"
    or my favorite,
"dude, shipping that thing would kill me!"

what dumb ****ing things to post.

really, i wish the object of your fancies was one town over and you had all the money in the world to buy it, but honey that's not happening so SHUT THE **** UP.

ok, that was a little harsh, but for christ's sake there are some people on this board who respond to nearly every cl***ified ad wishing they had more money.

here's a thought... could the cl***ifieds be set up so that the original poster is the only person who can add to the thread? that way all business would have to be conducted thru emails or PM's, thus avoiding "dude, i would totally buy that if you were closer (and i wasn't unemployed and living with my parents)."

    Don't think I haven't thought of that.

Another thing to keep in mind is that PM's count as traffic also AND they are stored on the server.

So Joe Schmoe runs half an ad and gets the same question pm'd to him 100 times and has to reply to it 100 times. That's more waste.

The only benefit there is that he didn't bump 100 good ads down the page.

I'm going to start deleting worthless replies. Not as a rules, just as I notice them. I don't have that kind of time.

If the ad starter can't be bothered to bring his ad back up ONCE A DAY then why should someone else mess with it?

Anymore? ***** you haven't even been here a year...

    Damn....

And the dude trying to pimp his site, to much new **** on there, this is the HAMB for a reason.

I've had damn good deals with a bunch of people through the cl***ifieds,
I've had transactions get tense (I'll take the blame on my part for some of it, but it all worked out) most of the problems I've seen lately aren't people that have been here for any length of time. yeah sometimes there could be better descriptions or pics, but damn if Farmer says it's in decent shape then damnit I believe him, or if Killer has something that he hasn't had time to take a pic of, I believe his description. Rashy does a damn good job as so does Rocky and Cornguy :D... Though at some point I do believe that we got a little to "kindler and gentler". If someone ****ed something up and wants to much, so be it, call them out... But all in all I will buy something here before eBay, or anyone elses site. And if a HAMB'er needs some help I'm there.

  16. Know what pisses me off............. the "Wish I was closer"..................

I've bought a car from SC (that ain't Saskatchewan Central) and an engine from Seattle (although it's still residing there) off of the HAMB. Nothing is too far if you want it bad enough.

If you want to bump up your post number, use some white out on the screen and write in what ever number you want............ but save the WIWC:eek:

Well I'm going to disagree with a few of you regarding bumping posts back up to the top. If someone has a car or part for sale and I have seen it in person (Jdubbya's car comes to mine), I'm going to throw my 2 cents in and tell those that are reading the post my thoguhts on said items. You guys that are selling stuff should be THANKFUL to those that make comments on your posts. This brings it back up to the top for you and keeps the interest up.

I think the whole back to the top thing has two categories...

Cat 1. Dude posts ad and never comes back to it, yet there are four, five unanswered questions and/or "BTTT's". This dude is a slacker and should be killed, then eaten.

Cat 2. Dude posts ad for something really cool. His buddies have seen said item and feel the need to attest to it's splendor. No problem with that at all. This would be the group you refer to, correct Denise?

Also, I use the male gender to speed up getting my thoughts out of my fingers before my brain reboots at random, I mean no offense HRLC.;)

You're right! I hadn't thought about the size of Tman's head obscuring the sun, thus bringing on another ice age.

    Maybe this will help?

    The pics could be bigger.

And I saw no proof there was ever a pig in that pit. I don't think CSI could have found enough remains......:D :D :D

You forgot to run it in all caps.

You are now on the "killed, then eaten" list. Please do what you can to lean up and lower your cholesterol.

That's true, since the mods got "promoted" they don't seem to spend much time on the main board, because they have to police the ads so much...Rashy, Rocky, Corncobcoupe, you guys rock, thanks for what you do, along with the rest of the moderators!

How did you know I was high in cholesterol?

I thought you might get a kick out of that.

I've sold some stuff in the cl***ifieds and bought some stuff there and I've had good experiences with everything so far. I agree with most of what has been said, but I'd like to add my little mini-rant.

Bad pictures aren't much better than no pictures at all. That includes pics that were taken either way too close or way too far away and weren't cropped down, but the worst pictures are...

...ones that don't show the car as it sits. "Here's pics of the car when I bought it. Since then I took it all apart" or "The wheels and tires and blah blah blah in the pics aren't included. Some other wheels and blah blah will be included"

If the car is apart, take pics of the pieces. You can include pics of what it looked like before but there are many levels of "apart" and it's important to see that. And if half the **** shown in the pictures is no longer on the car, take some new pics. It's misleading to show the car with paint and wheels and all put together when you're selling a car that's all apart and you're keeping all the good stuff.

Oh, and please people, put spaces between your sentences and start a new paragraph. Even if you don't have a good place to divide up your paragraphs, just pick a spot and separate. Does everyone realize how hard it is to read a 750 word run-on sentence without any periods or paragraphs? Maybe it's just me but that **** gives me a headache.

I love the idea of having this posted up somewhere for new cl***ified users to read. I bet it'll be one of the most popular links sent to cl***ified sellers and hopefully if they're literate they'll get the point.
