What the hell, give it a try. If the whole thing turns to shit, flip 'em to the inside. Nothing to lose but a can of paint...

True $20 is a lot cheaper

  5. If you can find a quart of 100% acrylic house paint it will work, the beauty of the 100% acrylic will expand and contract without flaking off and will adhere to the compound used in making tires. HRP

White elastomeric roof coating, that's what the whitewall paint is, just put in a different can and marked up. I've done many sets and they've turned out nice, but the key is to sand off the lettering and shit you'll be painting over with an 80 grit on a DA, then you have to clean the tires with lacquer thinner about 5 times over to get all the brown oil off of it, that step is key. then it'll take about 4 or 5 coats to cover, use a good brush that you can throw away after. Let it dry in between coats or it'll smear around. Best to use a tire that has a nice line or groove in it that you can paint up to.. Up real close, you'll see brush marks, but on the car, if they were done nice, they look great and never chip or crack, it's as flexible as the tire.

  7. Yeah, the elastomeric is a 100% acrylic paint,if you use a foam brush you can avoid the brush marks. HRP

Cool tricks for an act that's been around...
I did my 'Nobby' on the rear of my Hawthorn in '54, (cool balloon tired bicycle) The stuff came in a pint can, was titled 'Para White Tire Coating'.
I put 2 thick coats on, the stuff came out kinda 'yellowish'. I just did a 'pre-wipe' of the sidewalls with an alcohol soaked rag...never knew about all the 'brown oil' in the rubber, must have been the problem.

The kid I bought my '36 Three window from in '55 painted whitewalls on it, he used white primer.
Soon as I got it home, I repainted all 4 with black primer!

  9. Purchased the shit from some eb#% vendor in Florida.
    Followed the directions closely.
Sanded off the sidewall letters and other marking. Cleaned and cleaned the rubber with all sorts of chemicals he recomended and cleaned some more with with lacquer thinner and some hi dollar chemical that was recomended by others on the H.A.M.B.
I laid down 5 coats and gave each coat 1 or 2 days to dry.
It looked spectacular. Drove it 3 miles last Wednesday afternoon to a cruise and by the time I arrived it was flaking off in huge ribbons.
    It's pure JUNK.

Port-a-Walls, but they will disintegrate at highway speeds, especially on radials.

I used that in 55 on my 48 Ford Conv. Would touch them up every Sat. night before I went out on a date. Couldn't afford real WW.
