A friend has this really cool 55 Ford custom. The car looks great but I think he's a little bored with the car. He's thinking about doing a Watson style paint job.

I'm not sure it will work with the powder blue paint. What do you guys think? I put a pic up in the photoshop thread.

A good 2 tone paint job would do wonders for it.

I've seen that car and personally I love it just as it is. I gotta go with Ray here. With that side trim the car just needs maybe a two-tone paint scheme, perhaps Wimbledon White above the trim and on trunk or just on top alone. If the owner is dead set on changing things or getting fancy, how about a darker blue on the top with some light flake or other custom effect. If it were mine, I would leave it alone. It's a charmer.:)...Don.

I know this isn't the right answer you're looking for, but I looked the car over and basically I thought the same thing as lothiandon... I like it just the way it is. If it was mine, and I sure wish it was =) , I'd slap a set of skirts on her, maybe some tasteful pinstriping and drive the wheels off it!

Be sure to post pics of it whatever you do

I pulled this off the "Kustoms" thread, as a visual aid.

Using the blue base would not be the best for a wild Watson style paint job. If you just flake the roof, or tu-tone it, it would bring it up to mid-late 50's style. You'd really need to go with a pearl and candy combo to get into the early 60's, Watson look.
Wouldn't necessarily look better, just different. Definatley more outrageous.
Does he really want to do a full blown paint job? Or just add something to it for more interest? Big difference in the amount of work!

I have the same question, my 55 Fairlane is getting ready for paint. I have dark blue and ivory interior and would like to do an ivory pearl top and the rest of the car in midnight blue primer.
Don't want to get into the shiny vs primer look just haven't seen a 55 Fairlane two toned this way before, any thoughts or pictures?

I've loved this car for years...maybe instead of a Watson scallop, fade, blend job do a nice Watson candy job...more fitting of that car I think.

Pearl white above the chrome and on top.....needs skirts, even stockers; but Merc cruisers would be real nice. Nice 55...
