I tried using radius rods like this on my 35 Ford pickup and found out they are incredibly weak. First time I put it in gear the axle wrapped around them

And you better post a picture, because bending those top arms is going to be extremely tough to do. So most will call bullshit.

 

Really? @manyolcars What year radius rods did you use? The early ones are nothing more than sheet metal. The '40's are pretty stout pieces. With the triangulated design from top to bottom of the 4 bars i've used, I am certain the rotational forces of the differential will be virtually nil, and the flex deflection of any of the bars will be less than 1/4" in the center of their span. With considerably more horsepower than I have.
They are working against each other when you really think about it

Wow, just got done reading your thread. Great story and build! You are giving Dennis some good competition with this thread. Your build is on par with Dennis, Neal, and CTaulbert. Thanks for the good reading and inspiration.
Your attitude in the face of cancer is also inspirational.

 

Thanks for posting your build thread! It is inspirational and inspiring not to mention just plain cool! You are doing a great job of sticking with your original plan for a mid fifties build with some nifty design and fabrication details. Hope you get her done in time. Looks like you will at the rate you are progressing.

While i'm not sure I agree with my build being on par with that list,
they were all big inspiration for my build. The fact you would even think that though,
I take as a huge compliment.
I don't think anyone can really come close to @Dennis Lacy for doing a tech filled thread.
He is a wealth of Early Ford information and we are fortunate to have him in this community.
His truck and mine, although somewhat similar are vastly different.
That's part of what makes building Hotrods fun. Each persons approach.
As long as we're all having fun, that's all that matters.

 

Doing a great job. You, Dennis Lacy and Rob Bob give us guys building 32/34 trucks lots of inspiration.

Kelly, I hope it's ok to send you a note on your project page. I read your starting story and thought maybe you might want to see what happen to your COE when it left and went to New Orleans. I have been working on it since I got it from you. Hope to have it running and driving in about four more months. Metal work almost done, about 90%. Working on chassis to breakup the every evening work on the metal work. Should have engine in by Christmas. That 33 looks cool.

 

@G.M.-TECH Kevin, great to hear from you! I've been wondering about the COE and how
you're making out with it. Thought maybe some pictures of it may turn at the Bayou Round Up.

Very nice work. My name is Dave and a new member. Starting on a 31 Ford A fully stock and converting to up scale rat rod /street rod. Do not want to open a new thread for no reason as there is probably several posts here already covering most my questions.

I know you mean well, but on here terms like RR and Street rods mean something else.
So please bear in mind that when you say RR, we hear clapped out POS with dangerous frame, PBR cans as body replacement piece and rust instead of paint.
And when you say street rods, we hear dial 1-800 and get one car send with crate motor and all. And all whisels and bells that we don't care for.

But if you like what Flowmeister is build and wants to build a nice well build car, with good proportions, I think you should start you own thread and show us that you meen well.
We call them traditional hot rod's, and takes it seriously!!
Despite you chose the wrong words for the rigth reason.
