Wheels tires go great on little hot WHEEL cars just not traditional.

That is a great point. I like the bigger (17 is about my limit) but HATE those rubber band tires. I like a lot sidewall.

Build the car for you, not for anyone else. Hot rods are not supposed to have rules, save that for the stock original type cars. If you want 18s put them on, but wheel style should work with the build. My current 41 caddy build may be getting 17s, but what is cool about wheels is they can be swapped back and forth depending on what you want any given week. I am using 15" cragars for the jag IFS mockup.

I'll have to agree that if the wheel is so big that the tires are just rubber bands it looks like shit.

For me personally 15 " is the sweet spot.

Maybe it's an Australian thing, but a lot of people seem to use 16" Ford rims from the utes on their traditional stuff when they can get them.

What about width? Equally important? Lots of old cars had large diameter wheels and tires with high aspect ratios, but the rims were not generally wider than about 6-7" or so. And they looked good on the cars they were designed for, eh? I can see some 20" x 6" rims being ok if the correct profile tires are available. Gary

So i will be running 45 fin drums upfront from a 64 riv WITH the 64 hubs (bearing conversion) and in the back is a pontiac 9.5 posi that has the big bearings but i will check the lug pattern cause its not gonna be the same as the front pattern if i remember correctly.
Not going to be easy to get wheels in 15" that match do ya think?

Skylark 15" wire wheels look great on a 54 Buick. Hell they look great on any 50's Buick.

First love the bobber. Mine is in my album. Like most 15" with plenty of rubber between rim and road anyday over rubber bands. You can figure out different mounting diameters if needed.

I agree with the 15", 16" look. There is a Deuce roadster at one of the shows that has 18" wheels and to me it really looks weird. I may be a traditionalist but I just don't like the "rubber band" tire look and I know the ride sucks. Wheels and tires really can make or break the look on some cars.

  15. Well actually in the words of Roy Dusky and Lynn Anderson that falls into the realm of "Too many dollars and not enough sense"

That by the way is a cool car, but it is also a exercise in excess. It probably is the perfect example of donk wheels and what they represent an exercise in excess. One would think that on a traditional rod and custom site that it would be a given that what was not available or used within a certain period would be the proper response to literally any question regarding equipment that is ever asked.
