I'd like to know has anyone run 16 in rims with tire size 215-75r X 16 on the back of their 55 56 ford. Is there any clearance problems I was looking at a 6 in width too. Right now I'm running 205-75r X 15 all the way around car with maybe 6 in width I'm not sure. They also are a 3 and a half in back space. These are Torque thruster 2's. Nothing rubs now because I have air shocks in back . I'm thinking about putting the us wheel gennie rim 456 with the outside chrome plated rim and inside is bare metal. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't know anything about clearance issues on the 55-56's, but I do know that the backspace on the wheel you want to change to has more to do with potential clearance issues than anything else. The backspace will determine clearance on the inside, the wheel and tire widths will determine clearance on the outside.
That backspace, and understanding the modern tire designations will help a bunch in figuring out what will fit. The first number...215 is the width of the tire in centimeters, so divide the 215 by 25.4 to get the width in inches. The 2nd number is for the height... given as a percentage of the width. that 2nd number...75 is 75% of the width. Add two x height to the nominal tire size (16) to get the outside dia.
Here's a link to a great tire size converter that will give you numbers you can use:

For reference, on my 57 I'm running 7" x 15"s on the back with a 235/70R-15 tire. My 7" wheels have a 4.25 backspace. I'd suggest a 7" wheel width on the back....depending on available backspacing of course.

Spot on, Tex, except the width is in millimeters, not centimeters. I run a 215/75R15 on 7 inch Torque Thrust D's and have rubbing issues on my 55. The wheels are 3-5/8" backspace. If I had it to do over again I would opt for 205/75R15 and a 6" wheel. A 7 inch wide 16 inch diameter wheel may need mini tubs and generous backspace.

Where are your rubbing issues? My 7" wheels have a 4.25 backspace, so I'm guessing your issues are on the fender side? Once again, mine is a '57, so we're not talking apples to apples here.
    Yep, MM, not CM...thanks

55 & 56 Fords are super tight out back. Mine rubs on the outer wheel lips on turns. I have rolled the lips and gone to air shocks which helps eliminate the rub if I air it up to 50psi or more. More backspace might help, but that's a custom order for TTD's. A buddy of mine runs 6 inch wide Torque Thrust D's with no issues whatsoever.

Guess I'll just keep the same wheel and tires just run a 6 inch width which is what I think I have as I have no wheel rubbing now. The car I'm talking about is the pic to the left.. thanks for all the help Dave

I'm running 235x15's on 8 inch rims (2½ back space) on the back of my 56. My rear is 4 inches narrower than stock.
I had rubbing when carrying weight in the trunk so I flattened out the lip on the inside of the quarter panels and put air shocks on, only running 25 psi unless loaded, then only about 50 psi. No more rubbing.
