Hi All - I am restoring a 1952 Henry J Allstate car and am looking for parts sources --- I am also wondering if the Allstate White walls are being made anymore ????? Thanks for all replies !
Allstate is a Sears brand, I doubt if those molds are still around, check with Coker Tire, they will know and lead you where you need to go, or just buy their great tires such as the Firestones. good luck with the Henry J, one of the coolest cars ever made.
Haven't seen those tires in many years. Those little Henry J's that were labeled as Allstates were sold through Sears Stores. Sears and Roebuck sold all kinds of stuff over the years from outhouse kits to Craftsman bungalows and even rebuilt Ford Flathead V-8s. My first car (a '53 Mainline) had a rebuilt Flathead from Sears. Sad to see a great old American company teetering on the brink of extinction.
Their catalogue was the internet of that time period, had everything you could think of and then some.
Mark - I have a Kaiser and have bought lots of stuff from the gentleman who runs this site: http://kfparts.com/ Good luck with your Henry J - and post pics when you can!
And as young men, who a**** us didn't "research" the women's lingerie section ! A while back, I bought a 1958 Sears catalog off of Ebay and it was nice to go through it and see all the cool car parts, guns, etc they sold back then. (the lingerie wasn't as good as I had remembered though.) Today, Sears ****s. Don
Seems like we're going back in time.. ordering everything online instead of putting a foot into a store. Except payment is instant and we get our stuff in 2-3 days. Think I've bought 99.5% of the parts for my Ford using a PC. Whoever made tires for Allstate/Sears made them for Gulf gas stations. I recall the Allstate and Gulf tread patterns being identical.
With 4 boys in the house, Mom, took out the women's lingerie section, I didn't catch on until a buddy showed me--HA HA
A guy near me has an Allstate that he drives every now and then, it is pristine to the liner in the trunk.
Sears was pretty adventurous in their advertising back then, too. http://www.theavanti.net/allstatead.html I wonder if their commercial success was more cause than effect as far as running this ad, and similar programs.
Hi. You missed my deal by about a month. When I purchased my 46 Chevy Coupe in 2013 it had a set of the old Allstate wide whites in 600/16 on it with very few miles on them but they were at least 30 years old. I just recently replaced them with the Coker radial look alike wide whites & gave my Allstate's to a friend with a Model A Huckster that had 16" wheels. He does not mind the dry rot as it will only be run as a parade vehicle. Jimmie
Thanks so far for the replies -- I am aware of Coker and will probably get them from there -- I wasn't sure if there was another source as I found the motorcycle tires from Allstate are being produced again --I will get some pics together and posted soon
