Was doing a bit of brain storming for my current project and was wondering if anyone has ever run a pinion mounted emergency brake on an open driveline banjo rear end? Would be nice to not have the cables going to the drums.
I have put a few on the transfer cases of 4x4 rigs, and on the pinion of Deuce axles. Either way, they work fine. In each case, the stuff I used came from here: http://www.tsmmfg.com/driveshaftparkin.html I made the brackets. Not complicated stuff.
Here is a link to one kit and I think if you could get the rotor and caliper you could make the bracket. http://www.tsmmfg.com/pinionmountedpb.html
Check out the caliper link I posted, there are several sizes. Also, they have numerous rotors, designed to bolt on to the u-joint u-bolts: http://www.tsmmfg.com/Transfer_Case_PB/transfer_case_ro.html
Either way you have braking force multiplied by the final drive ratio, so you can do the job with a smaller brake. You also have differential action on the brake, which may be either an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on the circumstances. Presumably any slip-limiting device would work on the brake, too.
I have one from TSM on my bucket. Nice piece and great guy to deal with. We figured out that he one for a sprint car is the same as a banjo rear end.
Speedway catalog #501, page 50 part no. 715-3250, Pinion Mounted E-Brake. This one is for a 9" Ford but might be adaptable.
If you are using a GM TH400 it is easy to get the trans output shaft setup they put on motor homes. It is all bolt on.
Do you still have the kit for the pinion that you won at a car show or pics. my e- mail is samoht1926@yahoo.com. I’m trying to get one for a 8.8 rear out of a crown Vic.
Do you still have your e-brake kit that you won. I reached out to you last year but never saw a response. my personal e-mail address is Samoht1926@yahoo.com
Thankyou. Would you please reach out to high flying and see if he still has his pinion e-brake kit? I just never saw a response
