Hi all, I am having a few issues. While fixing a brake issue on the front driver side I noticed that the nut and washer that bolt onto the rear of the swing arm at the bushing were missing and the bushing seemed to be installed incorrectly (it only came through the swing arm by less then a 1/16 of an inch. I removed the swing arm and checked the bushings. They looked ok so I removed them (slight tap with a hammer) and cleaned them all up. I reinstalled the rear bushing and installed the shaft. Once it was tight it wouldn't turn. When I did get it to turn all it wanted to do was undo the nut. What am I missing here.
Either the bushing isn't installed all the way or it installs from the other side with the flange to the outside. Do you have a shop manual?
I have been meaning to pick up a manual. Should have long ago. It is pressed in from the outside. Everything on line shows this is the direction is should be and it is the same as the p***enger side. The flange is to the outside. There is a washer on the inside.
Don't know if they're the same as a '57, but you removed the bushings "with a slight tap of a hammer"? Is that right for '54? ....'57's had to be pressed in.
