There is a link in the "sticky faq" regarding using a 1955-56 tank in the 52-54 Fords so this will apply to any 1952-56 Ford that is using a 5.0 EFI in their swap and wants an in tank fuel pump: http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/p...t_id=260/category_id=117/mode=prod/prd260.htm
The pump that is on the link says its "retrofit ", I wonder if the tank will accept an oem sending unit, the price is definitely right, k5 smog posted only to have to modify the straps to make the tank fit in a 54', no biggie.
That tank is not set up for the fuel pump.....the tank will have to be modified. You'd better be good at welding thin stuff! You don't want gas leaking out. What you have to watch for with the sending units on our cars is the mounting plate type. The Tanks inc sending units and tanks use the bolt ins. At least some of our Fords('my '57) have the twist loc type. I used their sending unit matched up to the ohms rating on my gage, but because my new tank had the oem style twist loc, had to salvage the oem Ford mounting plate off my old original sending unit to replace their bolt in. That said, I like their sending unit alot..very rugged construction compared to many. I also used the Tanks Inc fuel pump as shown in the link after welding in their recessed mounting plate/box. On the link Jeff posted, click on the PA fuel pump, then scroll all the way to the bottom for a pic of their recessed plate.
a pic...Note also the oem style sending unit mounting plate. The tank is the one available from Auto City Classic with the Nitern finish...welds really nice. A '57 reference...had I to do it over again, I'd not place the pump at the back as I did, but on the driver's side (next to ol' Shinka). I ran into a fuel line clearance problem with the trunk support bracing where I put it. It can't go on the passenger side where the fuel lines come in...the spare tire well is there.
Bob Drake sells a tank for the 55 with provision for an oem fuel sender and provisions for an in tank fuel pump. Only thing you have to buy their fuel pump mounting bracket, it's not expensive however. The tank comes with baffles also something it seems you need with an in tank pump.
The Tanks inc unit has the bottom "tray" that serves as the baffle. When you****emble the bracketry, the down piece is trimmed so the tray is at the bottom of the tank. Should be good enough for street use unless you mount it at the back like I did and you're doing wheelies for a few blocks.
