There seems to be several types of spot weld cutters available. Whats works the best ? Are any of the Harbor Freight ones any good. Thanks

  2. The ones I like look like an end mill sort of with a little centering bit.

never tried a harbor freight. But they should be cheap enough to give one a try.

I've used the Eastwood one that is the mill end style and had good results. Never tried the Harbor Freight tool but have used several of their tools with mixed results. Some good, some really cheap and don't last.

I used the H.F. Cutter a few years ago

I only had a few spot welds to cut, it worked suprisingly well.

Speaking as a devout cheapskate, get the tool with double ended cutters. BTW, this approach works much better than the "machete knife" with hammer approach. Doesn't tear or stretch the panel.

The one I have looks just like this, but I got it at a body shop supply years ago. Probably paid way too much for it, but it works great!

I was su****ious of the Harbor Freight cutter so I bought two, one for a spare. After drilling out a bazillion spot welds on my '51 GMC I still have the spare cutter new in the package.

I have the Blair spotweld cutter and the Blair hole cutter kit. They work great and reasonable priced.

Be sure to center punch the spot first. Makes the job much easier.

I've been using "roto-broach" spot weld cutters for years now.
Bought them in a kit from Mac or Snap-On, cant remember.
its a great kit with bit sizes from 1/4 to 5/8" that thread onto a arbor which has a spring loaded centering pin.
They are not cheap, but i've got at least ten years of abuse on the set and they still serve me great.

I have an eastwood, I've worn out 1 side of the cutter and the cutter is jammed in there now.
    May try the HF.
I'm thru that part of the project but need 1 to keep in the toolbox for next time.

Work on cars everyday? Buy the good stuff
Weekend Backyard builder like me, I bought two of the Harbor Freight and used it to remove a firewall out of a 53 Ford. The second one is still in the package. They worked for me.

I used to do a lot of unibody repair, the blair cutters are good, but I have had very good luck with the HF cutters as well. also, the HF cutters will screw right onto the Blair driver. The HF cutters are on sale occasionally, and a fraction of the cost of the Blairs.

I use my Irwin turbo max drill bits that I got on the Matco truck. They are a relatively flat tip bit and everything over 1/4" is guaranteed against breakage or getting dull so I always have a sharp bit.
