Great cars in these photos - thanks for sharing. What event or events were these shot at?

The early Olds headlights, and even earlier grille, look right at home. And that bumper!
The push bar and low stance set the nail. Ride on!

This picture is priceless. We take so much for granted now that was once a mystery.
The scallops are expertly laid out, but what the striper had in vision and talent, he lacked in knowledge and technique,
as the stripes obviously went down in six inch sections. Anyone remember trying to dry brush lines with artist brushes?
We take it all for granted now, but the art has come a long way!

Now these are some expert lines!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember the Chuck Porter truck set up as a push truck with a board in front.

  13. Thanks for the further info on the '40 Sancho and the additional pic. I thought that car was so cool when I first paged through that Best of Hot Rod on the news stand and saved quite a while to be able to buy it....I was making $11 a week putting the elementary kids on the school bus after school, so after pizza, there wasn't much left. Lol

Mo, I wish I could show you close up pics of the pinstripe flames I first did on my '64 Pontiac in '84. Ordered myself a can of one shot and what I know now to be a huge striping brush, read an article or two on pinstriping and went after it. The layout was good, but the execution not so much, but hey, I had flames on my car man and I was happy as I could be. [emoji1] Here they are moments before I started slathering on paint stripper and stripping the car down to bare metal....sadly the best pic I have of them. Lol

Love the A&W picture. Small town USA at it's best.

  18. Well, as I clear my herd of the Fleetlines, how about some Fleetline pics from my reference folder:

I love those 1960 Dodge tail lamps on the white '55 Ford. I had them on my '55 Fairlane back in 1960 while in high school. Perfect fit and beautiful looking. Probably an impossible lamp to find today.

  22. It is nice though. I have always loved a heavy pearl in baby blue like on that sedan! Actually I like a heavy pearl in a lot of those pastel type colours like the mint green on D'Agostinos '40 Cadillac Sophia something about it just works for me..

  23. I'm with you on the pearl. I have been going back and forth with the idea of doing a lot of pearl in the seafoam green for my "1955" Hirohata build. Rik hasn't really given me the all clear on that yet, though. ;)

I really like that two tone blue coupe. It's been listed on ebay a few times recently, not sure if it sold or not.

  26. Yeah it's definitely not a strictly traditional finish but on the right car I really like it. Rick Dore uses heavy pearl with pastel colours on quite a few builds and I think it goes really well with his modern take on customs.

  27. I guess all the sledheads have taken off for Christmas. I don't have any of the kool pictures from the 80's, but I thought I'd bump this thread with a few I took at the Leadsleds in 2014..........E
