Perhaps you older HAMBers can help me with this one. Who made this, and what was this mystery car model? I believe around 1966, I received a car model of this sketch. It was a huge scale, probably around 16 inches long, molded in gray plastic. It had a sharp, high perimeter beltline, which is where the upper and lower half of the model joined. Bubble canopy with a solid "Targa" roof band in the rear, hinged to expose two Sixties style bucket seats, and as I recall, chrome "step plates" to get into the ****pit. All of the tires were free standing, that is, not enclosed in fenders, and were made of soft molded rubber, with white plastic whitewall inserts and mounted on chrome Halibrand type wheels. There was also fully articulating coil spring suspension front and rear. The hood was forward hinged, with an offset chrome louver. The engine, as I recall was probably a SBC. The front had a simple horizontal chrome bar grille in a chromed t****zoid surround, with working headlights behind the grille. Rear taillights as I recall, were horizontal, also working. The lower tub completely enclosed the drive line; this car probably could float! I believe the dual exhausts were also enclosed inside the tub. The working rear suspension was a fully articulating with dual universal half shafts. When I was a kid, I used to after several years, part out my models, but for some reason, I only have the front grille (it's packed somewhere). It's been driving me kind of crazy wondering who made it, and what it was, as I'd love to see it again, maybe even buy one, if it could be found! Thanks for any info! Carnutofthedecade
I believe it was made by Renwal but I don't recall the name of it.They show up on e-Bay occasionally.
Bingo! F'ing A this is it! I remembered that it had a ladder frame, but I forgot that it was drilled! What was it called, and who made it?
I don't exactly know who made it but i do know its called something like the experimental coupe. Anyways my kit is missing a bunch of suspension pieces, I bought it mixed with other models. Let us know what you find
Wow, that's pretty cool - not seen one of those before! Looks like the type of frame design that AMT used for a lot of their showrod kits - only bigger!
Hey Drew, Can you post some more photos of the model; the rear, interior, etc? Also are there any model manufacturer logos, names, etc. in the tub? Some on here on the HAMB must know who designed this car, and if it was a show car before it was a model. I have a bunch of boxes that my mother packed of my stuff back in the Seventies, when I was away at college, and I am wondering if what is left of my model is in one of those boxes! Thanks for the find! Walter
Wow, I feel stupid, i got to looking and right on the inside of the tub is the manufacturer, lindberg
I was just thinking, that this car would certainly get Detroit out of it's problems! I'd love to drive this car!

It's the Lindberg GT200 ... kit#698M:798 My buddy says that it is supposed to be a concept car of sorts and has a 1960 Chrysler 413...
O.K., figured it out; as mentioned above, my model was a 1960 Lindberg SC-100, "Experimental Coupe", Lindberg Product Number 685M. The engine is supposed to be a 1960 Chrysler 413, with a Weiand intake manifold, Hedman headers, two Carter carburetors, and Mallory ignition. It also has Mickey Thompson Special tires, mounted on Halibrand wheels, with Halibrand disc brakes mounted all around. Still don't know who designed it though!
I have one of these kits, mint unbuilt. Lindberg used the 413 engine in the Fiat Dragster kit also.I believe this car was also issued in a metalflake body version. Most of those old Lindberg kits got reissued lately like the dual engine dragster and the Fiat Coupe but not this one.
It was also released as an earlier version as the GT150 and later as the Diamond Duster with a speedster-like windscreen instead of the bubble top. Here's a scan of the 200 instruction blurb.
They show up on eBay as the Diamond Duster... one guy on the showrods board just bought one for $12.00...
that was originally made by lindberg lines in 1961 and it was an actual concept car called the SC-100 the newer kit by lindberg called the diamond duster is a repo of the same kit except the SC-100 had a bubble top which was also motorized, the new diamond duster has an electric motor inside the motor which operates the motors belts and driveshaft to the rear end just like the original, plus real power steering and working headlights too, the kit is 1/12 scale and is just over 20 inches.
Thanx to everyone for this information about the Lindberg SC-100 model kit. I've built model cars and real cars since I was young... That SC-100 kit was a great memory from my childhood.. I had often tried to remember the name of it. I'm sure I'll buy the kit again if I see it at a swap meet. I'm going to browse thru this website as well. This all looks interesting Thanx Graham
