Anyone using one.. Lots of good reviews but I have a question of speed.. They say 2400 RPM or less, but most all buffers are running 3450.. Are you using one? What RPM? Pros or Cons.
Harbor Freight has a cheap variable speed buffer. I've put many many hours on the one I have, the only problem being the same as all their electric stuff...the motor brushes wear out quickly. The buffer does come with an additional set of brushes. I've never used anyone's expander wheel.
I'd like to find a bench buffer motor with variable speed.. Eastwood's wants $300+ for a 2 speed.. Not ready to go there yet.
Build your own with a dishwashing machine motor. I did, but not a buffer, a grinder. http://www.vintageprojects.com/machine-shop.htm
If you were to make a polisher using a washing machine motor, could you use a variable speed controller like this one list on Ebay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Router-Vari...953738?hash=item27f825d60a:g:McYAAOSwv0tU54~N
Cant tell Mark T, I'm not very into electronics/electrical stuff besides the basic stuff, but yeah, I guess so.
Well with Christmas rush it's been hard getting to Eastwood's Tech support, but finally did. Reason they are rated at 2400 RPM is the belts get very aggressive at higher speed. I already have a double shaft buffer and the way my small shop is set up, I don't want to add another.. I am looking at a speed controller, wondering if a simple light dimmer switch might do the trick.
I'd be surprised if the amp rating was adequate. They usually tell you not to use those even on a ceiling fan!!
Yeah I am going to look up an old fried who is pretty good on this stuff and see what he can recommend.
Thought I added this earlier, must have forget to hit the post ****on...again. How about a foot switch from a sewing machine? You might find one at a thrift shop really cheap.
Those work pretty good on brush type motors but not so well on shaded pole or other brushless motors. Lot of good reviews for light dimmers etc.
How about the model train transformer/power packs? I think when I was a kid I used to have one for an HO scale railroad but I sure don't remember amp load...
I think I found what I am needing http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...=AC+speed+control&rh=i:aps,k:AC+speed+control.. We will keep you posted.. Thanks for all the suggesstions. and have a happy New Year
