I'm trying to get information on the 20" steel smoothie wheels that Detroit Wheel started to produce. There is info on the net from a couple of years ago with impressive launch videos and lots of pictures of cool trucks and cars with these 20" steels on them. Yet can I find a way to contact them for info on prices and other tech data? I see they are linked to or are the same company as Mobsteel who have a facebook page but no info about their wheels. The Detroit steel wheel website is permanently under construction. I'm in the UK so picking up the phone is not ideal. Does anyone one have any info on this company or managed to get a set of wheels out of them and can share their experience? Thanks.
Thanks - at least their website is now functioning, if a little lacking in information. I'm in the UK, so calling isn't as straight forwards
Hi. From watching the Mob steel TV show on cable TV it appears they make the wheel in part of their hot rod shop & are not a huge manufacturing plant as compared to being a huge manufacturing business. The TV show had an episode showing some of the rims & centers near a press where they pressed & aligned the centers & one of the shop hands welded them in. Not saying this to indicate this is bad but to me it indicated a small operation on the wheels where everything is hand done as compared to computer run ***embly line. I could be wrong. The wheels do look great though & what we view in these reality TV shows is there for effect of that episode. Jimmie
Thanks - I'm just trying to find a decent wheel to run on a truck capable of running at least 2,200lbs load. So far I've found some Centerlines (a few models) and American Racing wheels (just one model) but not much else. Where are people getting their correct load rated custom wheels from these days? For the record, they still haven't replied to my information request so I can't say I'm itching to send them my money. So, 20" high load rated wheels folks....?
To be fair to Detroit Wheel, I got an e-mail with lots of information just now which is great. I asked about the wheel load ratings and got told they met the DOT standards.... can anyone shed any light on what the DOT standards for load rating are? It sounds a bit ambiguous. My truck will weight over 7,000 lbs loaded so allowing for weight distribution percentages, I need the wheels to be able to hold at least 2, 200 lbs. Any help or guidance appreciated.
Those wheels look So Sick!!! Im saving my money So I can get the 18s Raw Finish with Spider Caps and Beauty Ring on my silver 1954 Ford Customline. WHOOOO!! Someday
