JUST GOT APPLICATION FOR VENDOR SPACE AT INFINITY I HAVE HAD 2 SPACES FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS. I GOT THE PAPERWORK IN THE MAIL NOW $80 PER SPACE. SO I HAVE TO INVEST $160 PLUS $150 GAS TOLLS AND FOOD 2 DAYS WORK LOADING AND UNLOADING PARTS. THATS $310 SO I HAVE TO GIVE AWAY $310 OF MY PARTS BEFORE I MAKE A DIME. IM SURE THE RENTAL AND INSURANCE AND POLICE HAS INCREASED BUT 1500 SPACES At $80 A POP IS LIKE 120k k. REGARDLESS , THERE ISNT MONEY TO BE MADE SO IM OUT!! JUST NO ROOM FOR THE SMALL GUY. I HAVE MY OWN PREDICTION WHERE ITS ALL GOING IN THE FUTURE
Hey Lead-man, so if you only have 300.00 worth of parts to sell I can understand where you are coming from. My biggest bitch is when you do find a part your looking for, whether it be at a swap meet or a parts for sale listing, the price now a days is so out of hand and then there is shipping, no wonder no one can sale any parts. So in my book I look at it as I want to sell this so I can buy more so I will be cool and let it go for a reasonable price. Then you do have some one contact you on the part your selling at a low price and the first thing they say is so what is wrong with it that you are selling it so cheap or they offer you a lower price then what you are asking. Why can't we all just try and work with each other and move our parts around so we can enjoy the sport of Hot Rodding. I find it so irritating when some one is trying to get 300% more for something that sold for a lot less when it was new. For instant a set of wheel sold for 200.00 in the 60's and now the person wants 3000.00 for them. It a shame how greedy the American Public has gotten. So I guess a guy just has to take it for what it is or walk away. Also when they charge the buyers to get in the gate to even see if there is anything he can use, I find that to be enough to not even go, so I totally understand where you are coming from. I built a shed and I hang all of my stuff on the walls and enjoy it like a small museum, pisses my buddy's off because I won't sell any of my stuff to them. HEHEHEHEHEHE
38 I agree with the inflated prices keep in mind that you must be reasonable or people just walk away so you try negotiating or you take it back home It takes 3 hours to set up and 3 hr to break down if you have been doing this for a while, you can weed out the chiselers their going to walk anyway. consider the availability, history quality knowledge of the parts and the application. If I see a part and its within reason I buy it right on the spot. Of course you always get the guy who knows it all. Its networking exchange phone numbers e mails very important,as a vendor I get a lot of feed back Oh you cant just chuck these parts in the truck or they will get trashed in transit.OH its a hobby so you lay out $300 what happens if you dont have the right stuff that day? Montana Might be a good idea besides they get $10 a head to look around and food there is 7$ for a burger$ 4 for a water
yep, most swap prices going up, usually with fewer true buyers. as you know, a lot of wheeling and dealing is done between sellers before gates open for walk-in buyers. some swaps have a staging area for sellers to wait in before gates open to go in to set up - that is the place to buy. for the operators of swaps/shows prices to rent any property owned by a city/county have really gone up. many operators do not get any of parking fees, or for vendor food sales. used to be car clubs ran the swaps or, helped out their friends. now many have to hire workers, insurance has gone up too. then there is the seller that think that their rusty parts are worth gold prices, and will carry them around for years to try to prove that to be true.

Math's a little off, but you're right, that sucks. Seems like everyone's taking advantage of what used to be a lot of fun and a chance to socialize with other like minded people. (Anything that involves money attracts dickheads. It's like blood and sharks.) "How about a bottle of water for $2.50? or a shitty $6.00 hamburger? $8.00 sausage, $6.00 fries??" Fuck 'em, don't go. Well, I'll be going with more money than your outlay to spend, so if you got the goods!! Just sayin' it's always a crap shoot here, a few times I've had to make 3 trips back to the truck, and others I've left disgruntled and empty handed. Oddly, there's no set market in new england. The street rod scene is still really strong and the aftermarket billet and chrome guys always have a line at the booths! And alot of the vintage speed part purveyors seem to think that all their rust is better than strawberry scented cow shit!
Wouldn't mind the increase in fees, if it were justified... Mansfield is the poorest-marketed function of it's kind that I know of. Their not spending the money on advertising! Somebody should start a new one.
The higher fee definitely sucks, buddy up and split the cost as mentioned. The extra buddy can give you a opportunity to look around as well. Plan ahead. Pack food and beverages, bring desirable stuff and offer at fair price not ebay prices. Tag or mark a price on everything it weeds out the idiot offers if not marked. Price expecting to barter and don't have a chip on your shoulder cause people can/will be dickheads. I don't have to sell it, they don't have to buy it. No problem. I very rarely fail to make money when I do vend but pick my shows from experience and know what I have for parts and what they are worth. If I bought at a bargain I'll sometimes pass that along. Talk to everyone, some of the best deals and parts I've needed I've followed up on from people I talked to when selling parts.
^^^^^^^^- Sounds like a graduate student of "Swap-ology". Not bustin' balls on the money thing, "nhleadman"! --Believe me, I know Mass. sucks to do business in- they've got their hand in your pocket no matter what's going on ( and I think they spend the money to figure out MORE ways to squeeze you a little harder!) But that total you have to come up with just to show up is ridiculous. We need to figure out a "Covert Ops Flea" with no overhead! Show up at 6am, sell out, and everyone's GONE by 9am- like gypsies. ( then the hipsters will show up at 11am ( after brunch, with their "lattes" ) and wonder WTF?? I thought there was a Flea Market today?? ( HaHa)
That's probably where it's going, close to $100 a spot for the big events, I pay almost as much at the Syracuse Nats - if it wasn't local, and three days, I probably wouldn't do it, as just the five or so trips I make to set up and sell there use plenty of gas as it is. The only other meet I do that's more than one day is around $30 and I can camp overnight in my van for free. I only do about four other swaps, all single day deals. Although that may change this year, I bought a big van at an auction for a beater that I can load up and leave loaded when I put my conversion back on the road in the spring, so no more having to load up before and unload after each event.
Rusty NY thats they way to save a little time and money some swap meets are close enough to do that. The Question is what will sell on any given day $10 items or $500 sale. What is enough to make a little money.I really go to buy parts for my self. if I make a little extra thats a plus.Its really more than gas money. What about 6 new tires for a 1 ton truck, commercial insurance, registration. wear and tare ect. Well thats part of taking that truck out on the highway.And if it quits its$125 hr. to get it off the road. A guy buying a part has no concept of what it takes, he just wants a deal, thats what he is there for. Despite that everyone gets along pretty well and the DREAMERS live for another day.
