Ok so i was at pomona swapmeet and came across a set of big block chevy finned corvette valve covers so i thought thise would look awesome on my 56 chevy g***er
So when i went to put them on they dont fit if i line up bottom bolt holes i can see the manifold thru the top holes.... In another words the valve cover seems to be about 1/2 inch to wide for the head. Any ideas what these thing fit?

    Thanks in advance

My guess would be that the are for a BBC but are aftermarket and that's why they don't fit. Chevrolet did not make Finned Corvette BB valve covers.

    I will post pictures tomorrow.....
Cl***ic industries apperently they sell them too so i went there to compare them and unlike the ones i have theirs had part number and were narrower.... My father in laws friend use to work for garantee chevrolet back in the 60s and 70s he seems to think that they might be zl1 corvette but not 100% sure and no one told me they were BBC i just ***umed it because of the many BBC valve covers ive bought in the years past

Off shore knockoffs gone bad, getting peddled at a swap meet? You'd think a rip off casting would be too small, not too big. If the covers you have differ from the Cl***ic Ind covers something is up.

I have a pair of ZL1 heads (074 casting number) on the 427 in my Chevy II, with the same 396 valve covers that I've had on a few different big blocks...ZL1 heads are not different than normal chevy heads, where the valve cover bolts on.

The covers you have are probably for something else besides a chevy big block, or they were made wrong.

Plus a photo of the engine in question wouldn't hurt either. This has our curiosity up.

So says the guy who cant spot a set of BBC valve covers at a swap meet...:D And ZL-1 valve covers will bolt onto any garden variety 396. and they don't say "Corvette" on them either, they were chromed stamped steel...So, uh no, my guess is, when it comes to BBC's, you in fact, cant tell your head from your ***.
oh yea, and while we are here, you spelt "apparently" wrong too.:p All in good fun, of course...

I didnt post this here to get the kind of response you first gave me, is because of people like u that instead of helping a fellow hot rodder solve a problem you rather make silly stupid comments that just proves how stupid you are, you are so focused on proving me wrong that you didnt realize i never once said they were Zl1 valve covers, i said my father in laws friend mentioned it to me, and forgive my spelling i speak and write 4 languages so they get missed up but i guess that would a little hard for you to comprehend But its allin good fun.

Really weird. Maybe post the measurement that is off and someone will match it to another motor?

Those look like DRCE valve covers (drag race compe***ion engine) Some call them Oldsmobile even they don't share anything with a traditional Olds engine.

It would be easier to match them up to a valve cover gasket. Take them to a Auto Zone or Advance Auto and play stupid and have the kid at the counter bring all of the valve cover gasket out and they should match something or else they are manufactured/casted wrong.

Man, lighten up, can't you tell when someone is simply joking around with you ?

I would try putting a BBC valve cover gasket against the covers to see where they differ.
